Obituary of SCOTT – George Ross

March 23, 1932 – October 30, 2009 With great sadness we announce the passing of George Scott at the age of 77. Born in Port Arthur, Ontario, George was predeceased by parents David and Christina, and is survived by brother Robert (Estelle) and sister Janice Zabroski (Bob). He was married to Rae for 53 years. They had four children – Sue (Jamie), Christina, Cathy (Gord) and Becky (Leo) – and grandchildren Nosipho, Ali, Ben, Gareth, Ailsa, and Erin. A chemical engineer (Queens), he worked for Dow Chemical before retiring in 1989. A unique individual, George was unconventional, witty and pragmatic. He developed an intense passion for running in his 40’s, becoming an accomplished 10K runner and marathoner. He found great joy competing until his late 60’s, when myelo-dysplasia intervened. George was a voracious reader, lover of the outdoors, baker, traveller. The family wishes to give special thanks to the exceptional medical staff at Foothills Hospital, and to recognize the anonymous blood donors who sustained him in recent years. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the CNIB in lieu of flowers. At his request, no service will be held. A get-together of family and friends will be announced shortly. In living memory of George Scott, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.
