Obituary of Wilmot – Fred

Fred, beloved husband of Carol, passed away in Calgary on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the age of 82. In addition to his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Fred is remembered by three sons and one daughter: Harry Wilmot (Wendy Best) Michael Wilmot, Marshall Wilmot (Carol Wilmot), Susan Wilmot (Wesley Lafortune). Fred is also remembered by his four grandchildren: Scott Wilmot, Leah Wilmot, Claire Wilmot, Lauren Wilmot. He is also survived by his two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law: Bevans Giles of England, Brooks Giles of Honduras, Jennifer Giles of Ottawa. Fred was born in Calgary, Alberta on April 15th, 1927. He attended Western Canada High School and McGill University. He was a gifted athlete and an avid outdoorsman. In Calgary he played football for the West End Tornadoes and the 1948 Grey Cup Champion Stampeders. He then enrolled at McGill University in Montreal where he studied business and played football with the McGill Redmen. Fred graduated in 1954 with a bachelor of commerce degree. He embarked on a long and successful business career in the construction industry before becoming the managing director of Kananaskis Country; retiring from that position in 1994. He also actively participated in many volunteer and community activities in Calgary. Fred was a man of quick wit and humour. His greatest passion in life was his wife Carol and time spent with his children, grandchildren and a devoted circle of friends. Appreciation goes to friends, caregivers and Dr. Stephen O’Keefe. Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Monday, November 2, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
