Obituary of Irene UMBACH

May 1, 1929 – October 19, 2009 In the late evening hours of October 19, Irene slipped away painlessly and willingly and with gentle dignity as she did all things. Irene’s significant interest and great strength were her children, her family, and her church. For over twenty five years, she was a member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Calgary, lovingly as a member of the choir and in her later years, also as a Church Elder. All of her children and their achievements were sources of great pride and happiness to her. Irene was associated with the Calgary General Hospital for many years. Firstly, as a Registered Nursing Assistant and then as a Unit Clerk. In her retirement years she enjoyed many wonderful memories and happy moments with her sisters, traveling, cruising, and visiting the Orkney Islands to connect with her family’s Scottish heritage. Irene is lovingly remembered and celebrated by her sisters, Dorothy Leppington and Vera Ballantyne; sister-in-law Jean Sinclair; daughters, Judy (Ken) Carter and Tracy (Glen) Homeniuk; sons, Tom (Jean) Umbach, Don (Jill) Umbach and Rick (Carolyn) Umbach; (7) grandchildren and (12) great-grandchildren. Irene was predeceased by her husband Verdun; her parents David Sinclair and Bernice Landreth; sisters, Maisie, Marjorie, Edith, and Margaret; and brothers, Herb, Jim and Wilfred. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church (1102 – 23rd Avenue N.W.) on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through .
