Obituary of CRAIGAN – Stanley

September 17, 1930 – October 3, 2009 With grieving hearts the family of Stanley Craigan announce his sudden passing, after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the age of 79 years. He will be forever cherished by Helen, his beloved wife and best friend of 52 years. He leaves behind his loving and devoted daughter Carolyn Ingham, her husband Stace and his much loved grandchildren, Hannah and Quinn. Stan was born in County Down, Northern Ireland, on September 17, 1930. He was a City of Calgary Police Officer for over 30 years and received the chief’s commendation for Diligent & Sustained Effort. Stan also graduated from SAIT with a major in Business Administration and Accounting. He applied this education to his years as Detective for the Commercial Crime Unit. Stan also served on the Board of Elders of Central United Church for many years. Stan was passionate about his garden, tending to his geraniums and tomatoes which he happily puttered about in the spring, summer and fall months. He also demonstrated a love for animals and birds, creating a haven in his garden with bird houses, feeders and baths. Stan enjoyed extending his hand while a nuthatch or chickadee gently picked the seeds from him. Favourite past times with his wife were to play Scrabble and Crib. They always enjoyed the wonders of nature together and shared many wonderful memories. For many years Stan, Helen and Carolyn cycled through Fish Creek Park. Stan will always be remembered for his courage, strength, loyalty and devotion to his family. Stan is survived by his brother George Craigan (Joan) nephew Allan and niece Colleen (Todd) McDonald; sister Elizabeth McClelland (Matt – deceased 2001), niece Patricia (Paul) and nephew James (Maria); brother Bill Craigan (Isa) and nephew William Stanley (Eileen) of Northern Ireland.
