Obituary of de SOUZA

August 28, 1944 – Devon, United Kingdom October 2, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta Our beloved Phil de Souza, PEng, passed away on October 2, 2018 at the age of 74 years. Phil was the beloved husband of Jackie de Souza (nee Pill) of Airdrie, AB, and father of Therese de Souza Dauter and Andrew de Souza (Stephanie). In addition to his beloved wife and children he is survived by his grandchildren Kaden and Andreas Dauter and Alexander de Souza; his brother Christopher de Souza (Elinor Kelly); his nephews Tristan and Sebastian de Souza; his aunt Jane de Souza and cousins Penny and Simon. Phil was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy “Woody” Edna Woodman and his father, Denis Walter de Souza. Our Phil was a remarkable, larger than life man, full of mischief, full of music, and full of love for his family and dear friends. He never believed in the ordinary and encouraged everyone to strive for excellence; to be extraordinary. He himself was exceptional; in his work, in his accomplishments, in his faith, in the way he loved, indeed, in his very being. He found pleasure in ordinary moments, and every exchange with him was memorable. A professional engineer, Phil’s work was far more than a career for him; he devoted himself to doing everything well. He was a member of Sir Knight John Timmermans Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly, and sang in the choir at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airdrie and before that at Ascension Parish in Calgary. He travelled extensively, living in England, Nigeria, Honduras, and of course, Canada. His favorite places were on a beach somewhere, atop his beloved Cornish cliffs, or wherever his family was. Even to the end he was laughing and joking with his nurses and doctors, family and friends, always lifting others up; encouraging others, praying for others. Phil de Souza left his mark. He will be missed and loved always. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul’s Catholic Church () on Saturday October 6 at 1:00 P.M., with a reception immediately after in the Parish hall. The Graveside Service to follow at the . Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
