Obituary of HILL – David

June 28, 1937 – August 30, 2009 David Hill, beloved husband of Mavis passed away suddenly while vacationing in Nanaimo, BC on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at the age of 72 years. Dave was born in Middlesex, England in 1937 and became a Canadian citizen in 1956. He received a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan in 1961, and worked as a chartered accountant for Price Waterhouse and for Alvin Libin for thirty-one years. He and Mavis lived in Regina, SK, Mexico, Honduras and Toronto, ON before settling down in Calgary for the past thirty-eight years. Dave was an active member of the community, volunteering his time for the Calgary Zoological Society, Southwest Lions Club, and City of Calgary Parks and Recreation. He was a member of the Petro-Canada choir and an avid, talented gardener. Dave loved singing and will forever be remembered harmonizing Leaving on a Jet Plane with his best friends. Dave was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and was a much loved son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, friend and mentor. Besides his loving wife of forty-three years, Mavis (nee McDowell), David is also survived by three daughters and their families, Nicola (Brian), Amanda (Dave) and Maureen (Blake); grandchildren, Delaney and Fiona O’Flaherty, Sam and Jim Chakravorty, and Alice and Avery Horobin. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Gladys Hill. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
