Obituary of KLATZEL – Virginia Mary

April 28, 1928 – July 28, 2009 Virginia Mary Klatzel (nee McHugh) of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at the age of 81 years. She was born on April 28, 1928 into the pioneer McHugh family in DeWinton, Alberta, the daughter of Frank McHugh and Mary Jane Adams. Virginia attended schools in Davisburg and Calgary (St. Mary’s), which gave her an enthusiasm for educations that led her to become a teacher. It was at summer school in Edmonton that she met a fellow teacher, Stephen Klatzel. They married in 1953 in Calgary where they raised their three daughters and both taught. They were actively involved in the Foothills Camera Club, the Skyline Hikers and the Calgary Winter Club. Virginia was also very active in the Girl Guides of Canada and the C.W.L.; more recently the M and M Hikers and the Southern Alberta Pioneers. She will be remembered for her enthusiasm and leadership in all her pursuits. Virginia will be missed by all who knew her, especially her daughters, Delores, Frances and Louise, her husband Phillip Mudry and their daughters, Katelyn, Jocelyn and Stefanie. She is also survived by her twin brother Douglas, older brother Jack and their families as well as Stephen’s siblings and their families. Virginia was predeceased by her husband Stephen on January 30, 1995. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W.) on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church on Friday, August 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow in St. Joseph’s Section at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
