Condolences
My deepest sympathy to Carol and family on the loss of their beloved husband, father & grandfather. Len was a treasure to work with at Bell/BCE and will always remember his kindness, humour and genuine joie de vive. May he rest in peace.
As VP Financing & Treasury at Bell and BCE, there were few executives in Canada who were as heavily solicited by investment bankers as Len, yet he handled his position with integrity, imagination and modesty. He was always fair, often creative and never failed to inspire the Street to work even harder. Len also helped me in my own career path when he introduced me to individuals who would become my future partners. It was a great fit. My condolences to Carol and her family.
Dear Carol, Donna, Linda and family,
Len has left us with so many wonderful memories and stories. He will be missed by many.
Our condolences Carol and to your family.
Len was always a true professional at his job and a pleasure to work with.
Leonard Ruggins, my best friend for over 62 years.
Len and I grew up together in Montreal. We attended elementary school, high school and university together. We have remained in touch, although separated by miles, throughout our lives. It is very difficult for me to compose this Obituary, although I have never been lost for words. Leonard reached out to many people, in many different ways. He was a hard worker, a bright student, an outstanding business man and above all, the best husband and father you could wish for. Len introduced me to my wife, Gloria in 1966. It can be said he was also an outstanding match maker !
Throughout our years of friendship, there is one outstanding quality, of many, I cannot replace. Leonard had a great sense of humor and I cannot remember a single instance, meeting or conversation whereby a good laugh was not had.
Although Len fought a long, tough battle, he was still very much ready to chat and share some laughter with me. We will miss Leonard and I am so happy to have had his friendship.
Rest assured, Leonard is in Heaven, and if there is a need for direction or reorganization There, believe me, the process is underway !
It must be also very difficult and sad for Carol, Linda, Donna, Clifford,Tobin and Grandchildren . Please accept our deepest sympathy on your loss.
Goodbye Len, you are missed!

Carol and family,
May the warmth of tender memories and the love of those around you, bring you comfort. It is because of love that we grieve and because of love that we can be comforted in our sorrow.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Your quilting friend, Lois
Carol and family. Although I have not seen Len for a long while he was one of my favourite Calgary MGCar club members. Always a kind and encouraging word, a smile and a pat on the back. Have no doubt he will be sorely missed and remembered.
So sorry to hear of Len’s passing. I worked for Len in the 1990’s at BCE in Montreal and had four children while employed there. Len was extremely generous offering me job sharing and contract work to help me accommodate my family responsibilities. I will never forget his kindness and gentle sense of humour.

To my dearest Donna and family,
All our thoughts and prayers are with you in these trying times.
How I wish I could shorten the distance between us to be there with you.
Len was a smart businessman with an original sense of humour and growing wiser every year!
He was a loving grandfather with a kind heart and he will be missed by many.
I am touched to know you had the opportunity to say your goodbyes, these are moments you will keep in your heart and cherish forever.
Although your souls are filled with sadness in these difficult times, remember he will now be shining brightly with the stars, watching over you.
He was at peace when he departed and this will transpire in the guidance he will provide you.
May he rest in peace and may your hearts be filled with the affection we are sending you, inspite of the distance,
With all our love,

Our condolences for the loss of your loved one. Ken was a valued member of the Calgary MG Club. We enjoyed his company at many of the events and remember him fondly.
Dearest Carol,
Our condolences to you and the family.
Our long talks on many subjects always left me with a lot to think about. Our common interest Ham radio and history just to name two took us down a few good roars.
Our friendship was rather short when you look at the scale of life. However it was so valuable and enriching.
He will be missed.
Carol and Family – Yolaine and I are thinking of you while you weather this difficult time. Len was a dear friend and my favorite fishing companion, over some twenty years and many travels together for Salmon. I will always remember those warm days on the rivers with Len patiently casting, and the hilarious evenings after considerable amounts of red wine and competitive “Ribbing” over the days catches. His great intellect, staunch opinions, and constant research made him a formidable debater over dinner on all subjects ! Although what will always rest with me is his kindness and the genuine care of his family and friends – All of his fishing friends have committed to toast Len with a very good bottle of wine every season when we return to the rivers !……. I will miss him dearly !

Our sincere condolences to you, Carol, and your family. We got to know you and Len for a short time but I will miss his smile at weekly mass. You will be in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
Dear Carol, Donna and Linda,
Thomas, Megan and I send our deepest condolences on Len’s passing. I sat on my deck after reading the news, looking towards your old back yard, and was overcome by a flood of memories… Len calling to me over the hedge, a smile on his face, eager to share a story and a laugh about something he saw my kids do, or the most recent escapade of his girls. He was a good, kind, and funny man.
We miss you all, and hope to see you, Tobin, Austen and Shelby again soon. Our thoughts are with you.
Len will be missed, his sense of humour, his Christmas letters which so many of us looked forward to each Christmas, his love of good wine and food, and his wit. He was my best man at our wedding and Carol is one of my oldest and dear friends. Yes it is sad that he has gone but he did it on his terms which was so much like Len. Carol and family you have Mare’s and my condolences and hopes for the future.
Len was a good friend and neighbour. We will miss the stimulating conversation and his positive outlook on life. Our thoughts and prayers are with Carol and family.
Carol and family:
We only met once at Costco, but my thoughts have been with you during this stressful time.
Len was a very considerate and resourceful person who was very willing to pass on his wisdom to anyone who cared to listen. He was very well respected by the VectorVest User Group members.
It is strongly suspected that Len left affairs in order so that you would not be forced to make any rash decisions in the near future, which would not be advised in any case. I don’t think that knowing the outcome in advance makes this day any easier, but by being prepared may help move onward in a more confident manner.
My Deepest condolences to the family!
I am so saddened by Len’s premature death…
They say “the good die young!” So true!
Len was admired and respected by everyone!
He was a very kind man and excellent “boss” at BCE/Bell. He looked after his BCE family and we learned so much from him. Finance and Financing, as well as Wine and cottage projects and so many subjects… he was always there to help and find solutions…
Rest In Peace Len!
Sorry to hear of Len’s passing. I knew him in Montreal back in the eighties and remember his wit, knowledge and good nature. He will be missed.
I am overwhelmed with grief over the loss of a lifelong friend. My condolences to Carol and family.
I got to know Len through my late husband, Guy Agoston. They got to know each other at Bell Canada in the seventies and remained friends throughout their lives. I learned to appreciate Len and kept in touch with him after my husband’s passing. He will be remembered for his integrity, good nature and a great spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with Carol and the family at this time.
Thinking of you all at this sad time. Will miss Len’s presence at our monthly wine group
Carol, we were so sorry to hear the news on Thursday. Jon and I send our condolences to you and your family. You have been in our thoughts for so many months and we hope that you’ve had the time you needed to say goodbye. We always enjoyed our time with Len and will miss his insightful discussions and wry sense of humor. Love, Heather and Jon Fennell
A friend is a priceless possession. I am sad and will miss Len. My condolences to Carol and the family.
We’ve lost a unique one of a kind colleague. Condolences to the family. RIP my friend
Our sincerest condolences to the family. What a loss for you and for us, his friends.
We will miss Len’s wit and his sage advice. It’s sad for us to think there will be no more Christmas letters that had us in tears because we were laughing so hard. Truly a gift to have known him and spent time with him.
It is with sad regret that I won’t be able to attend services for my good friend Len. The timing is such that I was just landing in Venice when I heard of his passing. In light of this, a prayer candle is lighting his way, in Saint Mark’s Basilica, here in Venice.
I was sad to see Len’s obituary in this morning’s Globe. This is a man who I met many years ago when I was following BCE and Bell preferred shares for clients. He invited me in from Toronto and we shared and developed many ideas. When I returned with other colleagues from my firm to see him and earn the right to grow our participation, he was a good listener, a tough negotiator, and fiercely loyal and protective of all the individual (retail) shareholders of BCE. Ultimately we were successful, and he remained a respected client and we kept in touch for a little while after he sold his properties in Quebec and moved to Calgary. His advice and candor are missed. He will definitely be remembered in the world of corporate finance in Canada, especially by the many friends and colleagues he made while at BCE and Bell Canada. I wish to extend my condolences to his wife Carol and his family.
Dear Carol and family. We are saddened to learn of Len’s passing. Although it has been many years since we have been in touch, I pass in front of your former home on Paul Contant on my frequent walks through the neighbourhood, and of course, my thoughts bring me to wonder how your family is. It appears that Len enjoyed a rich, full life, surrounded by family and friends, and grandchildren as well. Please receive our sincerest sympathies . We had a little of his choke cherry wine from 1976, and we are toasting Len at this moment. God bless….Diane and Remo Zeppilli, Montreal
Dear Carol and the entire family , our deepest condolences on the loss of Len .He was a vey special and wonderful person and the years together at Bell and BCE will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time.
We were saddened to hear of Len’s passing. Our condolences to Carol and the family.
Our sincere condolences to Carol and the rest of the family. We’ll miss the engaging conversations we shared with Len at parties over the years. I only hope to have as much grace and come to peace at the end the way Len did.
I was a fellow trustee with Len for 10 ten years of the Kingsway return of capital trust.I think I only met him once in person once but he performed his duties extremely well and always could be relied upon. very unhappy to read of his passing
Very saddened by the news of Len’s passing. We met at McGill University in a Risk Management class I taught in the mid-90’s. Len and I maintained contact through risk & insurance industry dealings over the years… and developed a friendship which I truly appreciated. Len was a genuine guy. I always enjoyed his witty sense of humor… our travels, conversations, and passion for food and wine were just a bonus. We kept in touch after he left Montreal — and I too was one of those who always looked forward to those year-end holiday letters. The world has lost a good man…indeed!
Dear Carol and family: My deepest condolences, I met Len at Kingston when he was in his final year of engineering at Queen’s and we shared a house together. We have kept in touch over the years, especially the Christmas letters that I looked forward to receive each year. I’m glad I had the opportunity to visit their new home and sample a glass of one of his wines from his wine cellar. He was a wonderful smart, witty, gentleman. I will miss him dearly.
My sincere condolences for Len’s passing. Although I had not met Len, Carol has been a member of my quilting guild. I, after reading his obituary, feel that I have an understanding of his essence. His friends and colleagues have given a wonderful tribute to Len. My thoughts are with the family at this time.
Len was a wonderful man, one who lived his life with integrity, values, honesty and great spirit. I offer my condolences to the entire family, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.
