Obituary of Leonard Frank RUGGINS

January 27, 1944 – Toronto, Ontario August 24, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta Leonard (Len) Ruggins passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 in Calgary. Len is a graduate and alumnus of Queen’s University (Engineering), Concordia (Science) and McGill (Business). Len began his career as an electronics engineer with Canadair in 1966 and later worked 32 years for Bell Canada and BCE in Montreal in the areas of Operations Research, Pension Fund, Treasury and Finance retiring as the Vice-President, Financing & Treasury for both Bell Canada and BCE in 2003. Upon retirement Len and Carol moved to Calgary thereby fulfilling a decades-long plan. Len was particularly fond of fly fishing for Atlantic salmon; he loved to tinker with electronics including amateur radio; he rose to the challenge of keeping his MGBs road worthy and when he was able to, he enjoyed playing golf and skiing. He enjoyed life and resonated with the thoughts in Ecclesiastes 2.24 “There is no happiness except in eating and drinking, and in enjoying one’s achievements” but he was always cognizant of Ecclesiastes 3 “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to harvest, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance…”. Len leaves us being very much at peace with himself and with the world. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years Carol Ahearn Ruggins; his daughters, Donna (Tobin Marchand) and Linda; his grandchildren, Austen and Shelby Ruggins Marchand; his brother Clifford; nieces, Jennifer (Chris) and Sarah (Brandon); and nephew Christopher. Len was predeceased by his parents Larry and Betty and his youngest brother Gordon Ruggins.
