Obituary of Jane Gregory
Jane Gregory of Calgary passed away on Monday, November 19, 2007 at the age of 99.
With deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Jane at home. Jane was born in Musselborough, Scotland, to Tobias and Catherine Murphy, losing her father in WW1
1916 (killed in action). Her young life was spent growing up in the mining village of Blantyre, Nr, Glasgow. Jane came to Canada with her husband in 1975 to be with her daughter Kathleen (Colin) and family. Jane was a remarkably kind and caring person always accomplished what she set out to do. As a youngster she won many medals at Highland Dancing (silver and gold) once obtaining a Scottish Championship, she went on to become a highland dancing judge, a license holder and catering manager with a well known Glasgow restaurateur (Rio Stakis). Later in her fifties she became a beautician with Helena Rubenstein, working at Lewis’s in Glasgow, Scotland. Although she missed Glasgow very much, on coming to Canada at the age of sixty seven, she secured a position as a saleslady with the Boutique of Leathers in Calgary. She continued to work for them for a number of years (into her eighties), having to retire because of an accident, injuring her hip.
Jane leaves to mourn, a sister Helen, daughter Kathleen (Colin), grandson’s David (Dianne), Greg, granddaughter Colina (Cameron), great-grandchildren Shane and Cian and many nieces and nephews and her loyal friend Johanna AAA Nielson. Jane was predeceased by her beloved husband Bill (1990), son “Wee Billy” (1944), brothers, William (wife Margaret), Tobias (wife Kathy), Andrew (wife Lottie), Hugh (wife Mary), stepfather John Devine, brothers John and Miles Devine, sisters, Katherine (husband Michael), Isabel (husband Jimmy).
