Obituary of John Gatt

To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die. – Thomas Campbell “There are three things that last: faith, hope and love; and the greatest of these is love”. 1 Corinthians 13:13 With much love, we celebrate the life of our caring husband, father, grandfather and friend who lost his courageous 22 month battle with Brain Cancer on March 3, 2007. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 36 years, Dale, daughter Michelle Kelly, son-in-law James Kelly, grandsons Sean and Matthew Kelly, brothers Denis (Chrisy) Ghatt (Australia), Gordon (Angela) Gatt (Trinidad), sisters Maria (George) Mouttet, Connie (Phillip) Xavier (Trinidad), sister-brother-in-law, Rae and Murray Luft (Calgary), adored nieces and nephews. John was born and raised in Trinidad and came to Canada where he married the love of his life, Dale, in Calgary. Later John moved his family to Sydney, Australia which is where he was heading when he had met Dale. A few years later, the family returned to settle in Calgary. Their daughter Michelle’s successes in life were her father’s greatest pride. John’s strong faith and sense of family was admired. He has left a legacy of love and humour to us all. His two grandsons will miss dropping in for no reason but to give a hug and say “I love you” to Grandpa John. Special thanks to the medical professionals who provided exceptional care to John throughout his G.B.M. journey, the compassionate and remarkable people at Northrock Resources, Concord Mortgage Group Ltd., dear friends, family and neighbours, and the wonderful team at the Rosedale Hospice. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (corner of Northmount Drive and Northland Drive NW) on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. David Meadows, Presider. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in John’s name to Rosedale Hospice #900, 833 – 4 Avenue SW, Calgary, AB T2P 3T5 Telephone: (403) 263-4525.
