Obituary of Tristan Jonathan GARRETT

July 24, 2002 – Calgary, Alberta December 22, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved son and brother Tristan Jonathan Garrett. For 3.5 years Tristan fought a ferocious and courageous battle against Ewing’s Sarcoma followed by Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Always determined to win, Tristan took on this challenge with an intense and methodical strategy of positive thinking and perseverance. Throughout his treatment Tristan found his passion in raising awareness about pediatric cancers and the impact of giving to others. Honoured to represent The Children’s Wish Foundation and The Kimmett Cup, Tristan eagerly encouraged others to give of themselves by sharing his story and emphasizing the power a Wish has on children fighting to survive. Throughout his diagnosis and treatment Tristan challenged his medical team and helped make changes that will benefit many children diagnosed with cancer and their families. Hospital at Home, Community Paramedics, Calgary Lab Services and Alberta Health Services Home Care came together to help Tristan in his desire to have care at home. This has created a path for these services to provide resources for other pediatric cancer patients with the same requests as Tristan. Thank you to Tristan’s team at the Alberta Children’s Hospital with special mention to Dr. Ron Anderson, JoJo, and Carol as well as all of the other Oncology Clinic nurses, Unit 1 nurses especially MiKayla and Oralee, and the Assist Team. Also a special thank you to Dr. Nordal from Tom Baker, and Lou and Claire from Community Paramedics. We are grateful to have had a world class team who treated Tristan with compassion, respect and professionalism. While raising awareness for Pediatric cancer and The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada Tristan had a lot of support and encouragement from many different friends. A special thank you to Sarah, Susan, Kyla and Rhys from Children’s Wish, The Kimmett Family, Dr. Jason Baserman, Luca Ribetti and the LR Helicopter Team, Kara, Andrew, The Canadian Forces Snowbirds, The Canadian Oilfield Riders, David from Jet1 and The Calgary Police Air Support Unit. All of you were instrumental in allowing Tristan to share his story and find purpose in his life journey. Tristan was a unique individual who made his mark in this world in a short period of time. There will forever be an ache in our hearts. We will carry on and live our lives to their fullest to honour Tristan and his memory. If love could have saved him, he would have lived forever. Tristan will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Loreli and Todd Garrett as well as his younger brother Kieran, his dog Yogi, grandmother Cathie Prior, grandparents Barry and Ad Garrett, Uncles Steven (Bonnie) Prior, Brent (Karen) Prior, Chad Garrett and Aunt Diana (Brian) Holloway as well as many cousins.
