Obituary of van Gelder

Joyce van Gelder, beloved wife of Leo van Gelder of Calgary and only daughter of Marguerite and Peter MacInnes, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2006 after a long illness. Joyce has been a dancer, a dance teacher and a choreographer for most of her life. Starting to study ballet in her early years, all forms of dance quickly became a passion that guided her life and inspired all who came in contact with her. In Montreal where she was born, Joyce taught ballet, tap and acrobatic dance to all ages. Organizing and choreographing dance recitals and stage shows was, to her, a natural part of teaching. When she gave up teaching about sixteen years ago, she continued choreographing Broadway-type shows in Montreal. She continued this passion when she came to Calgary about ten years ago, to form the Silver Stars Revue. Joyce, as the Artistic Director of the Silver Stars, has been the primary driving force behind their continued growth and increasing excellence.
