Condolences
I was shocked and saddened to have just learned of Dave’s passing. I worked with him for many years at Petro-Canada in the IT Department. He was a brilliant colleague and always had an answer to a difficult technical question. He was very willing to help, always very giving of his time and expertise. Dave was a great person to have on any IT project – he was real team member. I recall when he returned from Africa from a trip he made with his church group, and put on a little slide show of his fabulous photographs over the lunch hour. I also recall his return to work after his first diagnosis and surgery. We had all been so worried about him, and were so thankful he paid us a visit. He was truly a very special person, and I am grateful to have known him. My deepest condolences to Joan and their children.
David was, indeed, one of the smartest IT persons that I encountered during my career. He definitely was a “go-to guy” for technical issues and questions. However, I also found him very well balanced in his approach to work, family and play. He pursued all aspects of life with the same passion he did when solving a technical issue. We will miss his wonderful mix of computer nerd, family man, sport enthusiast and community supporter… and his smile.
Joan and I wish to add our condolences to the list of many who have responded to David’s passing.
My wife and I wish to express our deep sorrow for David’s passing. He will be missed. I was a colleague of David’s at Petro-Canada. He was the go to guy for information on any new technology. He was always insightful and dedicated. My lasting memory of David was when he introduced me to my favourite Chinese dish the Salt and Pepper squid at Ho Won restaurant. I still visit the restaurant a few times a year and remember David every time I take that first bite.
I have very fond memories of the whole Robertson family from our time in Melfort. I was so very sad to hear of David’s passing. Please know that I am praying for all of you. David will always be close to you as you celebrate treasured memories and stories of his life.
Sending you love from Ontario,
Alison St Louis (nee Frier)
Uncle Dave was always supporting and encouraging, especially when I was new to Calgary. The Robertson family quickly became my Calgary family.
Thinking back on the Sunday dinners, hiking adventures, and family celebrations warms my heart. Much love to Aunt Joan, Heather and Ian, and the extended Robertson family.
Dear Joan and family,
My sincerest sympathy on the passing of Dave. It was a great privilege to know him over the years he sang in the Petro-Canada Chorale. His presence brought joy and enthusiasm to every choir rehearsal and performance. He was indeed a very special man! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very sad time.

Dave was a fellow resident at St Andrew’s College residence in Saskatoon. I remember him as high energy and friendly to everyone. He was well-liked and respected by residents. My sincere sympathies to Joan and the family.
Joan, Heather and Ian,
We extend our most sincere condolences to you and your family. We will miss a friend that was always there for us.
I have known Dave for over 25 years at Petro-Canada and Suncor, and have become good friends over the years. He was my go to person to ask him any questions about computers, or the latest software, cell phones, ipads, or any gadget. He was always available to help. I will miss him. Tish and I extend our condolences to Joan and the family.
Sending our heartfelt condolences to Joan Ian and Heather, as well as my Uncle Al and Aunt Isobel. We are all shaken and sad at this news which seems to come far too soon. We wish the best for David’s family. I will remember David from times spent celebrating Christmas during a cold prairie winter long ago as well as summers at Falcon Lake when we were much younger. Wishing all the best to David’s family now and in the days to come.
My condolences to the Robertson family. I met Dave in a PeopleSoft training course on my first morning at Petro-Canada. Little did I realize the influence he would have on my career and life. Shared many laughs with Dave in the office, over lunch on the plus 15 (Dave was always showing us the latest high tech tool), and of course on the ride to conquer cancer. He was a good man.
Just found the obit. Looks like David had a good (albeit short) life, well lived.
Our condolences to Al & Isobel, Lesley & David’s family. We know Al & Isobel well from Kinsmen in Melfort, Sask. and Lesley as a teenager.
I am so sorry for your loss Joan, Heather and Ian. I always admired David for the way he fought back from his first brain surgery. His enthusiasm, musical talents, sense of humour, and leadership will be very much missed by St. Thomas, as well as by anyone that knew him. Some memories over the years have been of David promoting camping trips, dressed as a scout leader, playing the bongo drum, and wearing a kilt. David will remain in our hearts, and never be forgotten.
I’m so sorry to hear of David’s passing. My sincere condolences to Joan, Heather, Ian and all of his family. David and Joan welcomed me to their home on many occasions with open arms, generosity and kindness. David was a talented photographer and musician with a great sense of humour who would tell tales at the dinner table that always enriched us. His dedication to and enthusiasm for The Ride to Conquer Cancer resulted in outstanding contributions to that event. He was a man with a big heart and he will be greatly missed.
John and I were very sorry to hear of David’s passing and send our sincere condolences from New Zealand to Joan and family as well as Alden, Isobel and family.
Dear Joan, Heather, Ian, Isobel and Al,
I found this obituary on Doug Milne’s posting today. I am so very sorry to hear of David’s passing. I recall him first as a fine young boy who has grown into a wonderful man. He has left you with wonderful memories and a great legacy of good works caring for his family, friends, co-workers and community. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this sad time. If I could, I would join you, but please know that I will be with you in thought and prayer tomorrow afternoon. Hope
Our heartfelt condolences got to Joan, Heather and Ian. Laurie and I were most fortunate to know David on a personal level through the St. Thomas community: Laurie served with David on the worship committee and Don through the Sound board gang. We also managed to go one of David’s many organized church group camping excursions to Kananaskis. I loved his camping hat – he was ready for action!
I learned a lot from David and we are very sad this day has come. our prayers and best wishes to Joan, Heather, Ian and their extended family and close friends. we regret we will not be in attendance for the celebration of life but know we are with you spiritually. With love, Laurie and Don Mills
Our condolences to Joan, Heather and Ian, as well as David’s parents and siblings. We regret that we are unable to attend the celebration of David’s life, but our hearts are with you at this time.
We have many memories of some great conversations with David, as well as family get togethers. Every time a special birth date came up, the family members all got together and celebrated. We have had many fun times together and he will be great missed. Love and hugs to the family.
Joan,
We are sorry to hear of your loss. Although it has been a long time, we have fond memories of Dave’s sense of humour, solid character, and strong personality.

Joan, Heather and Ian,
I did not know David but certainly remember him speaking at Symons Valley United. I’m sincerely sorry that he had to fight as long and as hard as he did with such a terrible disease but he displayed great courage and tenacity in that time. May God comfort you in your time of loss.

I will always remember David from our first meeting as cousins. I remember sharing side-splitting laughter and having such fun with ping pong. We wrestled and chased and pranked and played. He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. I hold those memories especially close now and send my love and condolences to Joan, Heather and Ian. Love to Aunt Isobel, Uncle Al and cousins Leslie and Trevor. You are so deeply in my thoughts.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Robertson family. Met Dave working at Petro-Canada & always enjoyed our chats. Dave was a very ‘gentle soul’ & fought such a courageous battle for so long. Rest in peace Dave.
Please feel the love and care for all of you Beloveds of David, in your time of grief. David was a high school buddy who helped make me a Star Wars fan. I shall never forget his role in Fiddler on the Roor in high school, and I appreciated his calm and good humoured presence during our first year of university. We were so happy that he found his love Joan and also such a strong community in Calgary. Dave was a blessing! Xoxo’s Lori Erhardt
Moira and I are saddened to hear of David’s passing. We both lived with David and Joan and 96 fellow students at St. Andrew’s College residence in Saskatoon. Unfortunately our career paths took us different directions after university. Our thoughts are with Joan and the kids, David’s parents and siblings and their families. God Bless to all.
Joan, Heather, Ian and all the Robertson family,
We were so saddened to hear of Dave’s final journey. He has been such a great friend to Vicki, Chris and family and then vicariously to the rest of the McPhee family. He showed such dedication to his family, his job and his church. We just want you to know that so many sharein your loss. Ken and Carol (McPhee)
I was so sorry to hear about David. I’ve been thinking about the great memories I have from when we were growing up and the Robertsons would come down to Fort Qu’Appelle or the Harpers would travel up to Melfort. Wonderful times.
Our deepest sympathies to Joan, Heather, and Ian. Isobel and Al. Leslie and Trevor. And all of David’s family and friends.
You are in our thoughts and prayers,
Malcolm and Wendy Harper
Joan, Ian, Heather, and all the Robertson family,
Our deepest condolences upon David’s passing. We are so glad we met and visited with him, however briefly, and to realize what a wonderful man he was. We know he will be greatly missed by you and many others for some time to come. Cherish the many memories you have of times spent in love and laughter. May your faith in our Lord’s promise of eternal peace and life be your comfort in the coming days.
I was very saddened to hear of Dave’s passing. I knew him through our work at Petro-Canada and Suncor. Dave always struck me as decent soul, quiet and unassuming. I know he was well respected and liked at the office and I’m sure that was the case in all facets of his life. To all of his family and friends, I extend my most sincere condolences.
Heartfelt condolences to Joan, Heather and Ian. Many the many memories, joy and love lived and shared with David/Dad bring you blessings of peace. He was well loved and gave so much life, energy and heart to many at St. Thomas.
So sorry to hear of David’s passing. As friends of Lesley & Blair’s we had a chance to meet David a couple times in Winnipeg at some of their family functions, and he’d remember who we were from one time to the next. We had a really nice conversation just this past summer and our children finally got to meet his, have fun with them together, and maintain a social media connection. Will be keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers.
Mark & Verle-Ann Irvine & family
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are going to you Joan, Heather and Ian. I appreciated David’s thoughtfulness and compassion that was evident when I would see him at St. Thomas. I enjoyed when he would speak about his experience with the ride and I always got a kick out of watching him and the other group members when performing their gift of music.

David was a good soul and a great energy who will be dearly missed by his work family at Petro-Canada and later at Suncor. He was dedicated and passionate about his work but it was his family and his support of causes such as the Enbridge Ride for Cancer that were his reason for being and truly gave him great joy. My sincere condolences to the Robertson family on the loss of David. We will miss him immensely.
Deepest condolences to the Robertson family. I met Dave on his first day at Petro-Canada at a software training session and was fortunate to have worked with him on many projects. He was definitely a “go-to guy”for answers. His courage with fighting cancer and his compassion for those affected by it was truly an inspiration. Our food court lunch group has lost a interesting and respected human being. I will miss his conversations, humor and birthday reminders. Rest In Peace Dave.
