Obituary of Wayne Duncan MCKENZIE
April 17, 1947 – North Vancouver, British Columbia
September 6, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta
Beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, volunteer and friend, Wayne McKenzie passed away peacefully at the age of 71 years. Wayne grew up in West Vancouver and graduated from UBC with a BSc in Math in 1968. He moved to Calgary shortly after to begin his career with Amoco Canada Petroleum where he worked for 27 years, during which time he met his loving wife Lorna (nee Edey). Following his time with Amoco, Wayne contracted with CP Rail until his retirement in 2002.
Wayne loved being involved with his daughters’ sports and activities plus family vacations and road trips. He enthusiastically helped his daughters with their homework and even volunteered to tutor other children. He spent many hours researching his family history back to Scotland.
Wayne’s retirement activities included golfing with friends, taking photos at Queens Park Cemetery for the Family History Society, volunteering at the food bank, serving as a Whitehatter at the airport, playing with his grandchildren, and travelling the world with his wife.
Besides his loving wife, Wayne is survived by his daughters and their families: Cathy (Roger Loor) and their children Alex, Henry, and Gwyneth; Emma (Will Pyne), and their children Isaac and Iris; and Heather (Luqman Mirza). He also leaves two brothers, Rod and Michael (Chris Dawe).
Funeral Services will be held at Robert McClure United Church () on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. with reception to follow. In honour of Wayne’s love for hockey and the Flames, those attending the service are encouraged to wear their favourite sports jersey.
The family wishes to extend thanks to the excellent care workers on Joy East at St Teresa’s Place.
