Obituary of Ruth Harvie Farran

Ruth Harvie Farran, beloved wife of Mr. Roy Farran of Calgary, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2005 at the age of 78 years. Ruth was born on January 12, 1927 in Calgary and married Roy Farran in 1950. Ruth went to school in both the UK and Toronto and then returned to Calgary in 1950, having met and married Roy in London. She was a very spiritual person, a talented artist and was a passionate gardener. Ruth and Roy lived and enjoyed their many years on their spectacular Millarville farm property. Ruth’s “spiritual” retreat was her home on the rugged west Vancouver Island coast, where she had many friends and relished her time spent by the ocean. Ruth’s wit and keen sense of humour will be long remembered by all whose lives she touched. She was a kind and generous person whose charity was felt by many. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, was always there for her family, and welcomed many into her fold. Besides her loving husband Roy, Ruth is survived by her four children and their spouses, Sally Gregg and Tim of Millarville, AB, Peter Farran and Wanda of Calgary, Terry Emery of Canby, OR, and David Farran and Margaret of Calgary; as well as her grandchildren, Christopher and Sean Gregg, Allyson Farran, Meaghan and Kristy Emery, and Leigh and Tom Farran. Ruth is also survived by her sister Joan Whitley of Toronto, ON. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Mary Kingsford. Special thanks to Donna Dolan, Joan Tetrault and Wendy Kam for their compassionate care and friendship.
