Obituary of Sarah Cissie HETHERINGTON

1922-2017 It is with great sadness that the family of Cis Hetherington announce her passing on Friday, June 2, 2017. We will all miss her but her three year battle with dementia was hard and we are grateful she is at peace. Cis was born to Robert and Rachel Cameron on April 26, 1922 in Wishaw, Scotland. When World War II broke out, she enlisted in the British Army Auxiliary Territorial Services. A friend talked her into becoming a pen pal to a young Canadian soldier, Erny Hetherington. Once they met, a relationship began that would last the next 62 years. Both sides of the family tried to get the couple to wait but they were determined and wed on December 29, 1942. After the war ended, Erny wanted Cis to come to Canada to see his country. Erny promised his mother-in-law that Cis would return to Scotland in two years and decide then in which country they would live. Cis boarded the RMS Aquitania with many other war brides and crossed the Atlantic to Canada. She did return to Scotland a few years later with son Bob in tow but by that time Canada was home and back she came. Cis is survived by her children Bob (Linda), Beth and Don (Renee); the true loves of her life, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Rob, Mike (Lea), Kyla, Kathy (Wayne), Dean, Brett, Katie Sarah, Tyler, Danauca, Cameron, Isabelle, Brandon, Logan and Jack. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Hugh and Mary Cameron; brother-in-law Jim Hetherington; Linda Bozak, mother of her grandsons Rob and Mike and many nieces and nephews both in Scotland and Canada. At 95, the list of those who predeceased her is a long one, suffice to say she missed them all, especially Erny who passed away in 2005. Under threat of being haunted, the family will honor her request for no funeral but will gather with friends and family to wish her a good journey at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Alzheimer Society of Calgary, 800, 7015 MacLeod Trail S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 2K6, Telephone: (403)290-0110, www.alzheimercalgary.com. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Cis Hetherington, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.
