Obituary of Harry Alan DUNSMORE

September 20, 1938 – January 14, 2017 Alan passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family’s love. He will be terribly missed and forever loved by his wife Judy Dunsmore (nee McGuire); his son Darren Dunsmore (Clara Villegas); his daughter Lori Dunsmore Smith (Neil); and their mother Donna Dunsmore; and his cherished grandsons Michael Dunsmore and Garett Dunsmore; Sam Smith and Max Smith. He is survived by his brother Russell, cousin Heather Kraft (Clarence); Sybil Mercier; Maggie Greig; Chick Bachop; Pat Newell (Tamara) and their families. He is also survived by Judy’s siblings George McGuire (Gaye); Sheila McGuire; Leo McGuire (Jeannette); Gerry McGuire (Sybil) and Sr. Doreen McGuire and sisters in laws Barb McGuire, Betty McGuire and brother in law Jim Hayter. Alan was also cherished by many nieces and nephews who loved his fun personality. Alan was predeceased by his parents Art and Anne Dunsmore (nee Patterson); cousin Nina Newell (Ray); and Uncles Lowell Dunsmore (Peg) and Frank Dunsmore (Edith). Alan attended school in his hometown of Rockyford, Alberta and transferred to Mount Royal College in Calgary for Grade 12. After returning to the farm briefly, he enrolled and joined SAIT’s Power Engineering department in 1962. Upon graduation, Alan moved to Edmonton in 1963 and worked at Edmonton Power until he returned to SAIT to teach in the Power Engineering department in 1984 until his retirement in 2003. Alan was a kind, generous, courageous, loving man. He was a family man and he cherished time with his children, grandchildren and Judy’s family. He was particularly proud of his four grandsons and their many accomplishments. His hobbies included hiking in his beloved mountains, golfing, gardening and creating stained glass art. He was an avid Edmonton Oiler fan. He and Judy enjoyed their trips to New Zealand, Ireland, Hawaii, England and Judy’s treasured Maritimes. Together they enjoyed 19 winters in Arizona with many dear friends. We would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Martin Harvey, Dr. Bryan Donnelly, Dr. Dean Ruether for their care and compassion; and for always being there for us, we would like to extend a special thanks to Marj McNeill RN from Sage Centre. Alan’s children would like to extend their deepest gratitude to both Judy and her sister Sheila for their unwavering loving home care until his peaceful passing.
