Obituary
Obituary of Kathleen Mary FLEISHMAN
June 28, 1943 – January 8, 2017
Kathy, treasured and beloved wife of Jerol, wonderful mother of Ryan (Vanessa) and Kyle (Nahanni) and amazing noni of Ava, Isabel, Marlow and Vale passed away peacefully on January 8, 2017.
Kathy was born in Sidney, British Columbia and was the eldest of four children (survived by her sisters Kerry and Mary Lou, and her brother Danny). Kathy was predeceased by her parents (Ralph and Margaret).
After completing business college and starting her career in Vancouver, Kathy boldly moved to Calgary in 1965. She was a talented and hardworking executive secretary to executive officers in Calgary’s oil and gas sector.
Kathy met Jerry, the love of her life, shortly after moving to Calgary. Kathy and Jerry were married on July 9, 1969 and embarked on a remarkable, supportive and inspiring forty-seven year marriage. Kathy focused on raising her family at the family home in Willowpark – where there was never a dull moment.
Kathy dedicated herself to a wide variety of interests and pursuits. She was an active volunteer at her sons’ schools, an involved volunteer and administrator in her sons’ ski racing clubs and a proud volunteer at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. Kathy was also active in many political campaigns, had a successful turn as an entrepreneur, was a part-time ski wear model and an engaged “fan” of rugby, football, water-skiing or whatever sports her sons were participating in. Kathy was also an avid golfer with her husband and friends, an enthusiastic bridge player and a lover of walks and quiet time with Tubbs.
Kathy and Jerry also had a love of adventure and travel. The family enjoyed a quarter century of summer vacations in Kelowna, as well as many trips to Maui, Oahu and other destinations throughout the United States and Mexico. Kathy and Jerry spent many winters in Palm Desert and loved their second home in Victoria. They also travelled to such exotic and exciting destinations as Turkey, Ireland, Great Britain, France, India, the Baltics, Russia, Alaska, New Orleans and Savannah.
Kathy was loved, admired and adored by her family, and her wit, grace, tenacity, brandishing of wooden spoons at appropriate times and undying love will never be forgotten.
We would like to thank the effort and commitment of the many people who helped Kathy during her valiant battle with cancer.
