Obituary of Hugh FERGUSSON

It is with great sadness the family of Hugh Fergusson announces his death at the age of 68. On Oct. 4, 2016, Hugh died in his sleep in Greece while on a cycling trip through the Balkan countries. He touched many lives through his passions for cycling, golf, wine, skiing, and community involvement, through work with the Alberta Progressive Conservative Association and with the Galileo Educational Network, and the Canadian Energy Research Institute. Born October 7, 1947, Hugh graduated from Thistletown Collegiate in 1967 and went on to complete degrees at McMaster University, then at Windsor Law School, and was accepted to the Ontario Bar Association in 1974. He practiced law with Ross and Robinson in Hamilton, then with Wilson Barnes in Windsor, and in 1978 began a 26 year career with Dow Chemical. Hugh began in the legal department as an Attorney, then he moved to the business side, and held various senior leadership roles, until finishing his career there as Vice President of Dow Canada. Not content to retire, Hugh accepted several Director appointments: Taylor NGL Limited Partnership, Provident Energy Ltd., the Alberta Electrical System Operator, and most recently he was Chairman of the Board at Canexus Corp. and an Independent Director at Alta Gas ltd. Hugh will be sadly missed by his wife Lindy, and children Keith (Yuen-ying), and Kendra (Brad) and sister Joyce, sisters- in- law Marilyn and Joanne, mother-in-law Cecile, nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is predeceased by his mother May, and father “Ferg”. A Celebration of Hugh’s Life will be held at held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W.
