Obituary
Obituary of Nora Madeline FERRIS
April 21, 1923 – April 6, 2016
Taken by a flight of angels, our beloved Mom, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Friend and for 68 years, Wife, passed away on April 6, 2016 surrounded by her cherished family. Nora had a gift of making each person who touched her life feel special, treasured and loved. She has left us all knowing just how much she really did mean it when she said she would love us forever.
Nora was born in Golden, B.C. but grew up in Nemiskam, Alberta. Finishing school in Foremost, Nora left her little brothers and Dad to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse in Calgary. It was at the Calgary General Hospital where she met her lifelong best friends, Ruth Eaton and Alice Johnson. After graduation, Nora nursed at the Eckville Hospital where her bedside manner obviously excelled, as her patient, Bill Ferris, thought he should ask her out. Falling in love as they danced to Moon River at a Dance Hall in Sylvan Lake, Nora and Bill began their life together.
While officially a Ferris, Nora remained a Butterwick at heart. She loved nothing more than being with her brothers and their families at the Shuswap, Elkwater or around any table where Lammsie was being played. Nora loved to have fun and laugh and every picture of her shows her contagious smile.
With gratitude for such a beautiful and long life, she leaves behind her husband Bill, her daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Russ Tynan, her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Susan Ferris, her grandchildren, Wendy (Ryan) and Colleen Tynan, Karen (Dave) Desjarlais, John (Brenda), Megan (Mac) and Luke (Christina) Ferris, and great-grandchildren Brody and Aubrey Ferris and Amelia and Lauren Desjarlais. Nora will be dearly missed by her brothers Bill (Delores) and Bernard (Vivian) Butterwick, her Butterwick and Woodward nieces and nephews and her beloved and treasured friend, Bonnie Hewson. Nora was predeceased by her brother George (Alyce), sister Bernice (Joe), sister-in-law Eleanor and so many dear friends who we know have welcomed her to Heaven.
Nora’s family would be honoured if you would join us for Funeral Services being held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
