Obituary of Edwin PAHL
PAHL, Edwin
March 27, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta
Edwin passed away March 27 of congestive heart failure at the Calgary South Health Campus at the age of 85 with his family by his side.
Edwin was born near Mariupol, Ukraine; he grew up in Europe during World War II and immigrated to Humboldt, Saskatchewan in 1949. He married Luz Maria Alba (now deceased) of Mexico City in Yellowknife, NWT and settled in Calgary, Alberta in 1964. Edwin was an entrepreneur and had a passion for cars. He opened his own business and worked as an auto mechanic for several years. Eventually Edwin worked as a heavy-duty mechanic in remote areas across Alberta. Edwin had an adventurous spirit and a lifelong passion for learning. He was curious about how things worked, loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with friends whether it was fishing, camping or snowmobiling. He enjoyed cooking, music, reading, travelling and playing with his grandchildren. Edwin had a kind, generous spirit; he loved animals and always helped others in need. He was easygoing, fun, fair, optimistic and above all, a gregarious storyteller. He believed ‘laughter was the best medicine’, and loved to make people laugh.
Edwin is survived by his sisters, Elsa Pappenfut, Martha Fuller and Millie Ballabina; daughters, Valerie Hernandez, Monica Pahl, and Michelle Herbert; grandchildren, Alex Hernandez, Diego Hernandez and Lucy Herbert; and son-in-laws, Gustavo Hernandez and Mark Herbert.
