July 19, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta
With deep sadness and with thanks for a full life, we announce the passing of Joyce Rosina MacKenzie on July 19, 2015.
Mom grew up in Battrum, Saskatchewan with parents Archie and Jessie as the oldest of six brothers and sisters. Following her graduation from high school and after some time helping the family, she moved to Calgary in 1943 where she received her Registered Nursing degree from the Calgary General Hospital. She met and in 1947, married the love of her life, Gordon, who predeceased her in 1984. Joyce was known for her love of family, enduring friendships, music and bridge. She will be remembered for her gentility, grace and for her warm and caring heart.
She is survived by her son Douglas MacKenzie (Maggie) of Calgary and daughter Marilyn Cowie (Ted) of Vancouver and she was a loving Nana to her grandchildren Scott Akerman (Natasha) of Vancouver, Duncan MacKenzie (Joanna) of Chicago and Kate MacKenzie (Darryl Schimpf) of Edmonton, and to her great grandchildren, Makenna, Parker, Ashley, Baxter and Wylie. She is also survived by her brother and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
“Thank you for all you have given us Nana, for your integrity, for your class. We will miss you horribly, but will always carry you in our hearts as we strive to live up to your example.” – Your grandchildren.
