Obituary of Peter Anthony MAKAR

January, 25, 1932 – Drumheller April, 28, 2015 – Calgary With his loving wife and family by his side, Peter Makar passed away peacefully at the age of 83 from pneumonia related causes. Pete was born in Drumheller, Alberta and at age two tragically lost his father. He was lovingly raised by his mother Katherine and her friend “Voiko” – who would become his father figure. Pete worked his entire life in various oil patch positions retiring as a records manager with Gulf Oil Canada in 1985. He loved his work at Gulf and enjoyed staying in contact with fellow retirees. He met his wife of 59 years Helen Lysiak while working in Peace River and they would raise four children: Wayne (died age 3), Dale (Ilona), Gary (Laura) and Donna Logan (Dan). An avid sportsman and loyal Flames and Stampeder fan, Dad will be remembered as a popular hockey and baseball coach and volunteer in the Varsity Community. He transferred his love of sport to his children and grandchildren and you could always find Dad in his famous red Stampeder or Flames jackets proudly supporting his eight grandchildren (Lindsey, Brett, Mark, Joey, Cale, Lucas, Taylor and Robin) in all their sport and school endeavors. We’ll always remember our awesome summer holiday adventures (including your masterful trailer parking), your great Sunday breakfasts, your resiliency dealing with health issues and your guidance and loving generosity (Vegas casinos will also miss your generous yearly donations…) Family and friends will be invited to a celebration of Pete’s life June 3. Sincere thanks to the staff on Unit 46 Foothills Hospital for the comfort and care they showed Pete over the last few months and we apologize for him waking up the floor with his excitement watching the Flames dramatic game 6 playoff win. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
