Obituary of George Douglas PETRIE

April 8, 1937 – April 1, 2015 Born in Hamilton, Ontario to George and Isabelle Petrie, George is survived by Verna, his wife of 57 years, three daughters, Catherine Langpap (Craig), Carrie, Jacqueline (Dino Bottos). He is also remembered fondly by his five grandchildren, Christopher, Jordan (Victoria), Mia, Ben and Eva. He was blessed to have four great-grandchildren, Ryland, Caitlyn, Jonathan and Ivan. George is also survived by his three siblings, Lillian (Mike Duffy), Jim (Joan), Jack (Brannan) and many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. George will always be remembered by his grandchildren and great grandchildren as a playful, funny man who regaled them with silly stories and encouraged them to create their own. George started his working career with the Royal Canadian Air Force, followed by years in the Calgary Fire Department. He honed his considerable sales skills in the insurance industry, followed by a successful career with Knowlton Realty. He then went on to form his own real estate company, Petrie Associates Inc. George was known for a great love of wine and food, hosting wonderful gatherings of family and friends. His skills in the kitchen were legendary and it was always a culinary journey to be seated at his table. His humour, generosity and love of a good story will be remembered by all who knew him.
