Obituary of Kristen Leah CRUIKSHANK
1951 – 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kristen Leah Cruikshank of Calgary, AB, on August 17, 2018. Kristen passed away peacefully at home, with her loving family nearby.
Kristen was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB. Although she was taken far too soon, Kristen lived a complete life that was full of love and friendship. A graduate of the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba, Kristen was an acknowledged entrepreneur, artist, and gardener, who gracefully balanced these responsibilities while also raising a relatively well-adjusted and accomplished family. When she wasn’t attending to her official duties, Kristen pursued her passion for art or, ever the queen of hospitality, could be found entertaining, relaxing, or “puttering around” at the family cottage near Kenora, ON. Indeed there was rarely a moment when Kristen wasn’t renovating or otherwise improving some part of the house or cottage – she had impeccable taste. Kristen was always available to provide comfort, advice and guidance to her family and her many dear friends. She was a classy and elegant lady who was loved and cherished by all. Although she is dearly and profoundly missed, her caring nature and passion for life will be warmly remembered and carried on by those who knew her.
Kristen is survived by her husband of thirty-nine years, Murray Carey; her children Steven (Jillian), Kait (Jared), and Jill (Nicholas), and her granddaughter Emmeline. She was predeceased by her father Claude, mother Pat, and sister Leslie.
In accordance with Kristen’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta, Suite 302, 609 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 2A1, www.kidscancercare.ab.ca .
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre as well as Pat, Wendy and Rachel of the South East Palliative Care Group.
In living memory of Kristen Cruikshank, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
