Obituary of James Paul Jim Lafleur

April, 18, 1962 – Brandon, MB November 9, 2014 – Airdrie, AB James “Jim” Paul Lafleur passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the age of 52 years. Jim served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 22 years, and retired from the service with the rank of MCpl in 2003. During his service Jim enjoyed a number of postings including, Winnipeg, MB, Cold Lake, AB, and a 5-year overseas tour in Baden, Germany. For his final posting he returned to Cold Lake a place he very much enjoyed and considered returning to in his final retirement. In his post-military career, Jim followed his military training and worked in the field of avionics in the Calgary area. He later took a hiatus from that work to care for his elderly mother at home. Of all the family, Jim had always had an especially strong and close attachment with his mum. They were best of friends. It was inevitable this devotion led him to be her final companion and care taker, which he exercised with the greatest compassion, dedication and good humor. Jim’s two great passions throughout his life were music and golf. He lived and loved music, playing his guitars for Mum or listening to Miles Davis. An avid golfer all his life, Jim was a student of the game. His greatest golfing triumph was winning the Lafleur brothers tourney in 2012. His golfing dream was realized when he became a marshal at the newly-built Apple Creek Golf Course in 2013 and 2014, as well as a marshal at the 2014 Shaw Charity Classic. Jim always was a stickler for the rules. Jim is survived by his brothers, Michael, Tom and Peter (Laurie) Lafleur; his sister Andree (Gary) Hammond; his nieces, Erin (Adil), Morgan, Mackenzie, Addison and Nikki; and his nephew Steven. He was predeceased by his father Joseph Marcel Lafleur and his mother Elizabeth Ellen Lafleur. As per Jim’s wishes, a private service will be held.
