Obituary of Scott Robert MacMILLAN
February 16, 1953 – October 22, 2014
Scott Robert MacMillan passed away suddenly on October 22, 2014 at the age of 61. Scott was born in Cornwall, Ontario, attended Royal Military College prior to obtaining his BSc (Hon) in Chemistry from the University of Waterloo. He worked at the National Research Council for one year before obtaining his L.L.B from the University of Ottawa. Scott moved west to Calgary in 1980 to complete his articles with a Calgary law firm with a practice in litigation. In 1999, Scott took his keen interests in computers and technology and commenced his third career in Information Security Governance, obtaining his CISSP, and formed a consulting company providing services to a variety of companies, including BP, Encana and Trican.
Scott was a keen cross country skier and member of the ski patrol during the Calgary 1988 Winter Olympics. He also loved hiking in the Rocky Mountains, and travels to Mexico, Predator Ridge, Hawaii and most recently Scotland. In the last couple of years, Scott renewed his love for photography, and was taking classes at SAIT to learn new techniques. Scott was known to his friends and family as being an excellent cook, who would regularly treat people to his special meals.
Scott is survived by his wife Lorraine Grant, his beloved dog Charlie, his mother Dorothy Shore and brother John MacMillan of London, Ontario, his step-brother Lester (Barb) Shore of St. Albert, his step-brother Bruce (Linda) Shore of Vancouver, his step-sister Allana Shore of Waterloo, an extended family in Edmonton and Ontario, and many wonderful friends. Scott and Lorraine have been blessed with sharing many happy events with their numerous special friends. Scott was predeceased by his father Ken MacMillan and his step-father Bill Shore.
A Celebration of Scott’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Calgary Humane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 4455 – 110 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2C 2T7.
