Obituary of William Bill Arnott DAY
May 5, 1942 – Winnipeg, MB
October 8, 2014 – Calgary, AB
We mourn the loss of Bill Day, loving husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, and friend to many.
Bill was raised in Winnipeg and went to the University of Manitoba where he earned an agriculture degree, got his teaching certificate and met the love of his life. Bill and Michele built a beautiful life together raising a family, having a career and then spending their retirement traveling and visiting friends and family.
Bill will be remembered by most as a patient and caring educator. A lifelong educator, his professional career started in Frobisher Bay, NWT where he taught for five years. Bill spent the rest of his professional teaching career in the Foothills School Division where he found his calling. Bill felt honoured and rewarded to have touched and helped shape so many lives through education. After retirement, Bill spent his time on a new job reminding us all that “Grandpa’s job is being silly”.
Bill’s devotion to his family was his greatest gift and his greatest strength. He strived to keep his family happy, loved, and supported. His favourite family tradition was spending summers at the family cabin, a place he had loved since childhood. He poured his heart into building a place where friends and family could relax and have fun.
Bill’s primary home was in Calgary but he also had a cabin in Ontario and a winter home in Texas. Bill made friends everywhere he went and will leave many happy memories with those that knew him. Bill will truly be missed by many.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of forty-five years Michele, by his daughter and her family: Carmen, Calvin, Maranda, and Marty, by his son and his family: Alex, Katie, and Berenger, by his mother Dorothy, his brother and his family: Murray, Susan, Deleah, and Duncan; his niece Gail and her fiancé Todd; by his brother-in-law Ward, and by a vast number of step-brothers and sisters and their families; and his Australian daughter and her family: Christina, Andrew, Isabel and Ben. Bill was predeceased by his sister Janice, his father Arnott, and his step-father Jim.
