Wilfred (Wilf) James Morgan passed away after a brief illness on November 5, 2019 in Calgary, Alberta.

Wilf was born in Alert Bay, British Columbia, on August 29, 1944. He was a Kwakwaka’wakw, a proud member of the ‘Namgis Nation.

Wilf started work for the city of Calgary at Heritage Park in his youth, and eventually worked his way up through the City’s Planning Department. He was integral in the development of Calgary’s Plus 15 system. Eventually he landed a position in the Mayor’s office as the Legislative Assistant. He then worked on various government boards including a position as a Liaison between the Provincial Government and the First Nations in Alberta.

Wilf’s family and friends will remember his humour, wit and fondness of a good time. He loved, took care of, and protected his family fiercely and consistently. He was also a very hard worker who saw success in every professional endeavour he engaged in. The world is a less wonderful place without our dad, Baka, brother and friend and we will forever miss him.

He will be forever missed by daughters, Pamela Morgan and Gretchen Riel; grandchildren, Summer Morgan, Hunter Riel, and Phoebe Riel; as well as his siblings, Sandra Webb, Margaret Gillan, Richard Morgan, John Morgan, Mary Russell and Michele Morgan. The loss will be deeply felt by his friends, including Hal Nash, his many in-laws, nephews and nieces. Wilf was predeceased by his mother Beatrice Morgan (nee Spence), and his fathers, Dr. John Morgan and Wilfred Hanuse with whom he shared his traditional name G̱wag̱wadax̱a̱la.
