To Alfred's family, please accept our deepest condolences for the passing of Alfred. We got to know him over the course of 6 or 7 years when we moved into a house behind him and Eleanor. In fact our house, is where Eleanor was born, and Alfred lived in, when he first came to Canada. They were very nice to us and we were very sad the day they moved away, but we knew it was best for them to be with family. I shared many stories with Alfred, mostly of his youth ,his coming to Canada and the weather. He was helpful when I was planting my vegetable garden, that I shared with them. He was always doing something around their home. In fact, at 91, I saw him up on his roof (see picture below). I asked if he was practicing to be Santa that year. He laughed and said no, he was doing some repairs on the chimney. Eleanor was not too happy he was up there, in fact, she did not know he was going to go up on the roof. When she came out and saw him, Alfred was in trouble. Haha. I was concerned for him and offered to do the job , but he said no, i can do it. And do it he did. I would go over once a week to help start his lawnmower because he could not pull the start cord hard enough. We would laugh as I teased him to have more Wheaties. He was a ray of sunshine for us whenever we met at the rear fence and talked. We are sad but know that we are better because we got to know Alfred.
