July 24, 1927 – Buchanan, Saskatchewan

November 14, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

William Lawrence ‘Bill’ Lomow (“Lomov”) passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019 at the age of 92, with his best friend Judy Burgess at his side.

He was born in Buchanan, Saskatchewan to Tony and Margaret (Annie) Lomow on July 24, 1927.  The family moved to Vancouver, B.C. in Dad’s early teen, formative years. He met and subsequently married his wife and life’s partner, Mae McKay. They were happily married for forty-three years and have two sons, Doug and Bob. Bill took employment with Bonar Packaging (now Hood Pkg.) as a Sales Trainee in his early twenties, and was transferred to Calgary in 1965 to plan and head-up their new plastics operation, one of the first in the world.  He went on to open Bonar’s paper operations and ultimately retired after forty-two years with the organization as their Vice-President at the age of sixty-five. Bill didn’t stop working then staying actively involved in the Calgary investment community until three years ago. Bill was also extremely active with his family and friends.  Active in The Glencoe Club as a curler, he too was also an active skier, hunter, golfer and fisherman and a huge fan of The Calgary Stampeders. Bill was also curious about the world and travelled extensively over the years.

Bill lived a long, full and well-rounded life.  He was well read, politically aware and active, well-travelled and well-liked by all who knew him.  Above and beyond, he cherished the few precious moments with his three grandchildren, Alexis, Ainsley and Ashton. A “True Calgarian” with heart.  Anyone that had come to know Bill was a dear friend for life. He will be missed.

Bill is survived by his best friend, Judy Burgess; his boys, Doug and Bob; his three grandchildren, Alexis, Ainsley and Ashton, as well as extensive family and good friends. Bill was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Irene Ward, and by his beloved wife, Mae in 1997.
