Obituary of George Alexander LECKIE

           March 12, 1932 – Kincaid, Saskatchewan
December 11, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

George Leckie of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at the age of 87 years.

George was born in Kincaid, SK on March 12, 1932. George was raised in Meyronne and left the farm at the age of sixteen to work in the AB oil fields. George worked in the oilfields of AB, SK and Greece for most of his life except for a short stint farming and working for the ALCB in St Paul. George met Olga Drobot in 1952 and they were married in 1953. Throughout their lives together, George and Olga moved over fifty times, between AB, SK and Greece. George and Olga loved to travel, venturing to Australia, Greece, Egypt, New Zealand, Great Britain, Europe, a Panama Cruise, Costa Rica, and throughout Canada and the United States. George was always ready for a road trip (short or long) with a family member, recently traveling to Jasper and the BC Sunshine Coast.

George was extremely proud of his family and always enjoyed visits from sons, daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other family members and friends. George had many friends and acquaintances in the Seniors Complex where he lived for the past six years.

A couple of George’s favorite quotes that reflected his attitude on life were: “I had no shoes and complained until I met a man with no feet” and “You go to hell just as fast for lying as you do for stealing”.

George is survived by his daughter, Patricia (Mike) Teslak of Calgary, AB, sons Dale (Marilyne) Leckie of Calgary, AB, Calvin (Deanna) of St. Paul, AB, David (Rose) Leckie of Calgary, AB, and Laird (Catriona) Leckie of Calgary, AB; George adored his eleven grandchildren, Serge, Charlotte, Erin, Shannon, Neil, Michelle, Joel, Tracy, Jennifer, Ryan and Jamie; and eleven great-grandchildren, Annika, Fell, Eli, Lucy, Oliver, Henry, Brielle, Caden, Shayla, Kaylee, and Camden. He is also survived by brother in law Orest (Florence) Drobot of St Paul, AB, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

George was predeceased by his wife Olga in 2011, after 57 years of marriage; his parents Archibald and Mary Leckie; and his brother and sisters Harold, Margaret, Irene, and Anne.
