Condolences
MIKE
A GREAT PERSON AND FRIEND. HE WILL BE MISSED BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN. WISH THE BEST FOR MIKES FAMILY
As is often the case, we learn more about a person's life after their departure. Michael's been described as one with a passion for skateboarding & music. "Passion" implies a willingness to work towards your goals & dreams with commitment & dedication to achieve.
You will not be forgotten by those who held you dear. Your wife, Joanie, will share her memories of you with your son, Owen, who will have his own recollections of the times he spent with you, his father.
Brenda & Mike O'Brien
He is legendary in the Calgary skateboard community. A truly unique style.
Mike was one of the most passionate and generous skateboarders I have ever gotten to know. He would have given his wheels off his board if he knew it would help out a young up and coming kid get better at skating. Yesterday, I went skateboarding at the Compound in memory of Mike. There was this kid skating a banged up board with ripped up shoes barely hanging together by a piece of lace. I knew right away that giving this kid the spare used board that I had in the truck was right thing to do. I felt Mike’s presence in the room for a moment. I’m gonna carry Mike’s “pay it forward” vibe for the rest of my time. My sincerest condolences goes out to the family. Rest In Peace Mike.
Gecondoleerd met het verlies van Mike. Worden schieten te kort. Heel veel sterkte en kracht gewenst voor de toekomst aan familie en vrienden
Respect to you Mike. You supported a scene, you supported the klids, and supported your son. He will always remember you and so will we.
Rest Easy
I always enjoyed skating with Mike. The company and team he put together was just a rad group of guys who wanted the same thing, to skate! He was so proud of the younger guys on his team and I know he’d still be proud of all of them. Rest In Peace buddy, roll forever
I worked with Mike for many years at The Ship and have many fond memories. One in particular was him showing up to the annual Halloween party dressed in a homemade retro robot costume. It was a huge cardboard box, painted silver, adorned with air ducting, aluminum foil, the works. He could barely move his arms, but the costume was amazing. I still chuckle when I picture him.
I haven’t seen Mike in ages, but I also remember how much he adored Joanie. I’m so so so sorry for your loss. Hugs from abroad.
I look back at my time in Calgary with fond memories, Mike is in just about all of them. My condolences to the family.
Wishing you all peace to bring you comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your heart. Our sincerest condolences to you and your family.
Mike had a way of making sure everyone knew he loved them. I remember the band got shirts made, and before they released them, he popped by my house to give me one. He didnt have to do it, but it was his way of thanking us for supporting him and the band. Little things, but they matter. The man was pure gold.
Tim, please accept our deepest sympathies for your loss; our prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. May you find comfort and the strength to cope.
I remember the thrill Mike had being a dad. He had endless love and energy for his little guy Owen and mom Joanie. ❤❤ Kathy and Walter T
