Condolences
Vicki, Michael, Caitlyn, Adam, and family,
I was very surprised and saddened to hear of John’s premature passing. In the last few days I’ve had time to reflect on all the times I shared with you and John, and all of us that were involved with Pony Club, horse shows and the horse riding ‘family’ at Calling Horse Ranch back in the day. Lots of great memories! John will definitely be missed, I know. He was such a quiet, gentle, smart man.
You and your family have mine and my family’s deepest sympathy and our prayers are with you all at this sad time.

Dear Vicki, Michael, Caitlyn and Adam
Our heartfelt condolences on John’s early departure. It is an immense loss for you and also for all of us who knew him. John had a long and happy association with our Department of Geomatics Engineering. I had to chance to supervise John’s Master thesis in the mid 90s. There was little supervision needed given his impressive and detailed knowledge, and thoroughness. When he became available for employment in 2004, I immediately offered him a research engineer position in our PLAN Group. As expected, his work was outstanding and his numerous contributions are still used frequently by researchers around the world. John developed long lasting relationships with the many researchers and graduate students in the group at the time. These relationships continued long after he left the department for NovAtel where he continued to excel. These researchers, now dispersed throughout the world, expressed both sadness when I informed them of John’s passing but also remembered John well for the advice and unconditional support they received from him. John served for 20 years as volunteer in the Alberta Section of the Institute of Navigation where his bookkeeping rigor was well known. He was thorough in everything he did. This served him well in archery, one of his favorite sports in which he excelled as in anything else he did, naturally. John was in charge of the Calgary Archers Club for years and successfully transmitted his enthusiasm for archery to my son René who took lessons at the Club for many seasons.
We will all remember John for his openness, vast knowledge, sustained excellence and dedication, and irreproachable professionalism and ethics.

My deepest condolences to Vicki and family . I remember so many childhood memories with my cousin John, playing in Nose Hill park and enjoying family Christmas dinners with Aunty Jean, Uncle Jack and all 3 of my Schleppe cousins . John will definitely be missed, he was always one of the good guys.

My Brother,
A sentiment that needs expressing
MORE that any other,
is the warm appreciation that I feel for you John.
Having YOU as a brother, in a world that changes so fast,
is one of the BEST PARTS of my PRESENT and my PAST.

Vicki:
Moira and I were very saddened to hear yesterday about John. He was truly one of the best engineers that I have ever had the pleasure to work with anywhere in the world . John was very much an engineer's engineer and John was an all around great gentlemen. I have many fond memories and many stories that involve John from our "Marine" days. John, in addition to being technically brilliant, was a joy to work with and his pleasant, positive, thorough, and collaborative approach was second to none.
You, and your family, have Moira's and my deepest sympathies and our prayers are with you all.
John and Moira
