Obituary of Steven Michael Gillespie

July 22, 1963 – January 18, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Steven Michael Gillespie on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the age of 56 years.

Steve loved sports and excelled in hockey, lacrosse and wrestling. He went on to a career in professional wrestling, working with several organizations and winning tag team and single championships. He also wrestled internationally and was a respected mentor and trainer to young wrestlers in Calgary. All who knew Steve recognized that his life and love was his deep commitment to his immediate and large extended family. He loved them all and they loved him deeply. Though our hearts are broken by this tremendous loss, we are forever enriched through having Steve in our lives and the memories we cherish as we move forward.

“He has gone home to be with the Lord”

Steve is dearly missed by his mother Patricia Volk, wife Annie (nee Peterson) and daughter Cara Cormier (Brendan). He was also a loving father to Steven, Candace and Cory; and loving grandfather to grandchildren, McKenzie, Anthony, Ayden and Brody. He is also survived by sister Catherine Andrejcin and brother Graham (Darlene); nieces, Brittany and Kayleigh; and nephews, Bryan, Blaine and Colin. He was predeceased by his father Colin “Mike” Gillespie, stepfather Bill Volk and brother-in-law Terrance Andrejcin, as well as aunts and uncles from the Baker and Gillespie families. He will be fondly remembered by his many cousins, surviving aunts, uncles, and numerous friends within the wrestling community, especially dear friend Rhett Hart.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Steve’s Life at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow in the Hospitality Center at the funeral home.
