Condolences
We will miss Laverne. She was a strong independent woman who saw the good in every person. She spent much of her life tending to the needs of others. She was a great conversationalist and kept us entertained on our groups Friday night meet and eat outings of her adventures throughout Canada, the Middle East and many other areas of the world she and Terry visited. Her homemade Cherry liquor had a special taste of friendship. Her gifts of personally made quilts have kept many warm at night and helped those with personal problems feel wanted and safe. She always found time to be there and offer help to many causes under her mantra “ I Will Help However I Can” Rest In Peace Laverne, we will remember you. Rob & Pam
It is difficult to believe that Laverne is no longer with us. We will miss her happy smile and helpful hand! We first met Laverne and Terry late one Sept. evening in 1977 outside Benghazi airport in the middle of the Libyan desert when our family of 5, plus dog was arriving to our new home and unbelievable adventures! Laverne was there to hold our hands through the next few weeks of major adjustments!! Laverne had turned hers and Terry's home with its desert sand yard into a gorgeous oasis full or trees, bushes and flowers. VERY creative and beautiful in the middle of blahness!! Laverne knew the local community that we were about to live in and was very helpful in sharing her experiences and knowledge with me so I could cope as quickly as possible. She shared her food sources, food and recipes for "relaxing drinks" prior to dinner. Even set up the "drink" workshop for me in my kitchen including the Rauch's grape juice and Welch's Grape juice that she had saved!! She took me to the local souks and taught me how to look for edible food among the multi colored goat heads and camel livers!! We shared lots of laughs while doing this.
To prove what a small world we all live in, when we all returned to Calgary it turned out that we lived walking distance from each other. Laverne and I have worked together in various groups in Calgary. Laverne was always willing to help and you knew when she said she would do something you knew for certain it would be done correctly. I remember her story of how she started to quilt??? I said if Laverne can do it, so can I !! but never to the level of expertise that she achieved!!
We share your sorrow in Laverne's passing. We will all miss her. I know how much Terry and her family meant to her. The community and world was a better place with her in it!!
Our Love to all

I enjoyed (and admired) the pictures of Laverne's quilts. She left a legacy. Cousin Judy.
Very sorry to hear the sad news. My condolences to you, Terry, and the family.

I met Laverne through my work at the Child Advocacy Centre. I loved going to the quilt store and see the quilts in progress and then seeing her when the quilts were dropped off or at our appreciation tea. The quilts Laverne and her group provided are always excitedly brought home by the kids that we see and they appreciate the love and good work in the quilts. As a fellow quilter, I know the work it is to make these quilts and truly appreciate her generosity. My condolences to her family and friends and she will always be remembered through her quilts.
I was just recently blessed with experiencing Laverne's sweet, compassionate and caring for others" personality, which is so my loss. Our few brief encounters have shown me a better way. Thank you Laverne for that!
Rest Now! You're at Peace.
Michelle
Laverne was talented, kind and compassionate, someone with whom you made friends quickly. She was never one to be standoffish, loved relating stories of her youth and time in the Middle East and loved having the opportunity to be a world travel and thoroughly enjoyed annual camping with Terry. Whenever and whenever she saw a need to help, Laverne responded with heart-driven quickness. We shall miss her and remember her always. Pam & Rob
