Anna COOPER (nee Reine)

Obituary of Anna COOPER (nee Reine)

June 28, 1944 – Preeceville, Saskatchewan
February 25, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Laverne Cooper beloved wife of Terry Cooper of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the age of  75  years.

Laverne was the third of five children and the second of two daughters.

Terry’s work took them to Libya for five years and after a short stint back in Calgary, to Dubai for an additional three years abroad. While abroad, they traveled extensively, visiting six continents and gathering numerous memories and stories from around the world.

Laverne had a creative touch and used that through the years in her efforts to help others. Whether that was her sewing clothes for family and friends, making and painting copious numbers of ceramic pieces which were also shared with family and friends, or her most recent and perhaps deepest passion, quilting. Those who were recipients of one of Laverne’s many quilts have a work that was made with love and compassion. Through the past number of years she has been involved with a number of quilting groups. One of these groups is “Quilts of Valour” who create quilts of comfort for injured Canadian Armed Forces members and veterans. Another local quilting group whose mission was most near and dear to Laverne’s heart is “Quilts from the Heart”. This group makes and donates quilts to the Calgary and Area Child Advocacy Centre and these quilts help to provide comfort and a sense of calm and security to the centre’s far too many clients.

Besides her loving husband, Terry, Laverne is survived by her sister Clarice, her brother Ron, sisters-in-law Norma, Ricki and Peggy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Laverne was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Alvin and Ken.
