Condolences
Harold’s friends and family, especially Michelle, Elaine, and Scott. It must have been so difficult not be able to gather to mourn when he passed in 2020, and I hope this celebration of his life will bring some closure to everyone who misses him.
Our thoughts and condolences have been with Elaine, Scott and Michelle and members of their family as they have dealt with the loss of Harold during this very difficult time of the Covid 19 pandemic restrictions. We have many fond memories of times spent with Harold and Elaine, which always included good visits and reminiscing about our common roots in Saskatchewan. As well, the very significant contribution Harold made as a member and Chair of the Connect Charter School Board is acknowledged. The school and charter schools in the province benefited greatly from his background knowledge and skills and he was highly regarded by everyone who had the good fortune to work with him. Harold was always very personable, and he had a great sense of humour and a special way of connecting with everyone he met. We admire so much how Harold dealt with the medical challenges he faced without ever complaining and always maintaining his zest for living life to the fullest. We take comfort now in many good memories of a life well-lived. Garry and Doreen McKinnon
My belated deepest sympathy to Elaine and family on the passing of Harold last March. I only just saw the "In Memoriam" note in the U of S Green & White and was very saddened by the news. I was a fellow U of S student from 1962 to 65 and knew Harold as one of the "Moose Jaw" Commerce crowd along with his good friends Bob Campbell and the hockey playing Hobday brothers. Harold boarded across the back lane from my parents. I remember him as a very kind, generous and thoughtful young man with a delightful sense of humor. He was a loyal and caring friend and was always willing to help out others. It is clear from the tributes to him that he remained true to his prairie values throughout his life and did so much good for others.

Dear Elaine
We are sad to hear of your great loss. It was an awesome privilege to be friends with both of you and to have enjoyed working with Harold at Shell Canada for many years. Harold was loved by all who worked with him. He was always calm, in good humour and provided reassuring guidance to the senior management and the directors of the company.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. He will be missed by your family and all your friends.
Deepest sympathies to you and your family on the passing of Harold. I was a legal secretary in Toronto's Legal Department for many years and met Harold when he travelled to Toronto. He was a lovely, quiet gentleman and will be missed by all.

Dear Elaine and family,
I was saddened to hear of Harold's death. I remember both of you as the "kids" who attended the Kingsmith house parties so many years ago.I often heard from Dorothy about your wonderful travels and the exciting retirement you were enjoying. I wish you well in this new adventure you have been forced to undertake. Harold was a wonderful gentleman who will be missed by all and particularly by his beloved family.
Sincerely, Vernice and Chuck Nowlin
We send our deepest condolences to Elaine, Scott, Emily, Michelle and family on the passing of Harold. He had the attributes that we should all aspire to. Harold had a vast knowledge of many subjects and expressed his opinions brilliantly and logically. We always enjoyed his wonderful sense of humour whenever we had the opportunity to golf, dine, travel or simply chat with him in person or via telephone. Harold was honest, generous, kind and fun loving.
Linda and I are privileged to have known this very special friend whom we will miss very much.

My deepest sympathies to Elaine and her family. I know words generally will not provide much comfort to you at this time. Cherishing all the memories of Harold may ease your grief. Hoping that you know that many of us, dietitians, have been keeping you in our thoughts.
Dear Elaine,
We send sincere condolences on the passing of your Harold to you and all the family to whom he was so dear.
Warmly,
Jeannette and Wally Kubke
Elaine we are so sad to hear of Harold’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We both were privileged to have worked with him at Shell, and enjoyed seeing you both at Glenbow. What a wonderful, highly principled gem of a man. He will be missed by all your family and friends. Phyllis Konrad and Carl Bonke
I had the privilege of working with Harold during my time at Shell Canada. He was a true gentleman - kind, helpful and down to earth. Harold treated everyone in the same way, irrespective of their position in the company. The world - particularly today - needs more people like Harold. Please accept my sincere condolences on his passing. Margaret Sparkes
Just saw the notice in the Herald and am very sorry to hear the news. Such a kind, gentleman that society needs more of, not fewer. Please accept my sincere condolences for your immense loss. Mary Lou McCormick
So sorry to learn of Harold's passing. He was my role model and mentor when it came to leading the Connect Charter School (Calgary Science School) Board of Directors. Every person I met through The Alberta Association of Public Charter Schools held Harold in very high regard - his common sense and compassion always struck just the right note when discussions got a little heated. :) The world's lost a fine soul. Sincere condolences to Elaine and family.
Elaine, Scott, Emily and Michelle
Our thoughts are with you at this time of great loss and we hope that you take comfort in many good memories of your lives together. Harold was a “prince of a man” who was very highly regarded by those who knew him. We admired his dedication to serving students and the development of innovative educational practices through his leadership on the Connect Charter School (Calgary Science School) Board and with the provincial Charter Schools Association. Elaine, over the years we have greatly valued our opportunities to spend time with you and Harold and to share our common Saskatchewan roots.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Garry and Doreen McKinnon
May the peace that comes from many happy memories comfort you all now and in the days ahead. With heartfelt sympathy, The Czarnotas (Rick, Melody, Emma, and Sarah)
A sad day when I learned of Harold’s passing. A wonderfully supportive school board member and champion of charter schools.
More importantly he was a great friend and a person of integrity.
I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work with Harold and enjoy many rounds of golf. My condolences to Elaine and family.
