Obituary of Mary Lynne PHILLIPS

July 14, 1950 – Nipawin, Saskatchewan  
March 9, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary Lynne Phillips of Calgary, AB, announces her passing on Monday, March 9th, 2020 at the age of 69 years.

Mary Lynne was the beloved wife of Bob Phillips; mother of two wonderful sons, Rob and Mike (much loved daughter-in-law, Lucy); Nana to her ‘new lights of her life’ Ben and Sam Phillips; and sister of Ron Rolfe (sister-in-law Patte Rolfe). Mary Lynne had many other loving family members that touched her life.

Mary Lynne was born in Nipawin Saskatchewan to Isabel and Arthur Rolfe, but moved early in life to Edmonton along with her big brother Ron. An exceptional student, she graduated high school early and went on to obtain her degree in Education from the University of Alberta. She started her teaching career in Australia, then came back home to Edmonton and, finally, Calgary where she spent most of her career at Western Canada High School. She retired in 2008.

As a teacher, she taught with the same values that she approached life with. She referred to her students as her ‘kids’ and often went the extra mile to help in many ways (including helping to feed and clothe them) to help them succeed in life.

Her greatest joys were the births of Rob and Mike and seeing them excel in life well beyond her dreams. Then came more joy with the arrival of her grandsons, Ben and Sam.

Mary Lynne will be remembered for her love of life, her ever present laugh, and her willingness to reach out and help others.

The beautiful brilliant moon Monday night was a fitting symbol to the end of a beautiful person.

A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.  Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
