Condolences
March 21,2022
Doreen and I served on the YWCA board at the same time where she gave memorable leadership over many years. Doreen knew herself very well so this enabled her to direct and guide others in their service and leadership.
A few years back, when I was visiting Calgary, we were able to meet again for tea in her apartment where we enjoyed many stories and laughs together.
She spoke of her grandchildren with much fondness.
It was an honour to know her.
I’m so sad to hear of Doreen’s passing. She was such a sweet woman and I loved seeing her at Knox. She was a wonderful supporter of the children’s program which I will always appreciate. I fondly remember having tea in her home shortly after my wedding and she made a delicious wedding cake that we enjoyed together. We chatted for hours about everything. I will always remember her sweet smile and her genuine care and love for everyone. Rest In Peace lovely Doreen.
One of the greatest moment with Doreen was to be invited to her home, looking the Bow River. We had tea and a very long conversation. She already had her home for sale and she was planning to move to an apartment. She gave me a kettle that used to belong to her husband's grandparent. It is an antique that adorn our dining-room cabinet. Doreen also attended our wedding and she was just released from the hospital on that day. She was a very good friends. I love her and I will always remember her for her sweet heart. See you on the other side. Love, Max & Alan <3 <3

I will always remember Rick and Maureen’s mother Doreen as a kind and thoughtful woman. She was elegant . She cared . She was interested in you and what you were doing with your life. Visiting with her and Jack at their Memorial Drive home was always inspirational, and always good for a laugh..... with us and at us !
As long as I can remember Doreen was always giving to the less fortunate. Her quiet demeanor and beautiful smile were trademarks of her life well lived.

I am very grateful to have met Doreen. My husband and I bought her house in 2017, after the Ormans lived in it for almost 70 years.
She told us stories about the house and neighbourhood, and her life. It was wonderful to hear the history, which we are proudly carrying on in our home, which we still refer to as “Doreens house”. We have even started our family here, and I hope that would have made Doreen happy.
I am sorry to hear of her passing. It sounds like she left such a legacy on so many parts of the city.

The Ormans and Moooneys years ago,50s, became great friends and it has carried on. Jack is with Doreen, and Dad is telling jokes
Rick, my condolences on the passing of your mother. Although I never met her, I appreciated reading of her contribution to the world, which I am sure was an influence on you. There is a small chance we crossed paths when I went to Knox United Church so many years ago.
Dear Rick, Maureen and families,
I was sad to learn of your mother's passing.
I first met your Mom when I was a volunteer with Century Homes Calgary in 2012. Doreen was a lovely, kind, and funny lady who gave a lot to many causes.I was amazed by all the causes she volunteered for. I would met up with Doreen as I continued to be a heritage advocate volunteer after Century Homes Calgary.
I remember when she came to one of the Calgary Heritage Initiative's workshop about heritage designation. In 2018, I asked Doreen to come and speak at a heritage workshop about her designation experience. We were delighted and humbled by what she had to share. Your mother's home is the first and only home designated in Sunnyside and gift to all Calgarians as it will be around to share its architecture and history for future generations. I thank for Doreen for being such a delightful and giving person and how wonderful it was to know such a great lady!
Sincerely, Lindae Stokes
Dear Rick, Maureen and families,
We were saddened to learn of your mother's passing.
She was a wonderful, caring person who lived her life so very well.
Our Aunt, Paddy Mulloy has reminisced often of the two of them jogging together along the river, long before
it became a popular form of exercise.
Paddy now resides nearby in Okotoks , we will inform her of your mother's passing when
we are able to visit her again.
Sincerely , Robert & Carol Cuthbertson

Dear Rick and Maureen and Family
My deepest condolences on the loss of your dear Mother and Grandmother.
She was a truly remarkable woman who made her mark and left the world a better
Place. Always with a kind word and a beautiful smile. She was always one of
My late husband Larry’s favourite people he loved to bump into and have a lively discussion.
May all your wonderful memories always keep her alive in your hearts❤️
I am saddened to learn of Doreen's passing. I have known Doreen at Knox United Church for many years. She was an inspiration: her pursuit of social justice was deep and unrelenting. Doreen was a profoundly caring and kind person. She accompanied us on a trip Knox organized to Victoria a few years back and she was a delightful companion. I know her family will miss her deeply, and so will Knox and all her friends there. We have lost a great lady!

Dear Rick, Maureen and families,
I am very saddened to hear of your Mom's passing, I considered her a very dear friend and neighbour. I have missed her very much since she left your family home in Sunnyside a few years ago, but I think of her every time I walk by the house. I truly am very grateful for having been given the opportunity to get to know her, she truly was ahead of her time and an inspiration to me personally. She was the epitome of "age is just a number" and her years of dedicated service to the community, and in particular women, truly remarkable. I will say a little prayer for her tonight and for all of you whom she loved the most.
Sincerely,
Wendy (Paul, Easson and Hayden) Weisshaar
I’m so grateful for the things she taught me. My heart is broken, but I truly feel her spirit lives on in all of the strong women who carry on her legacy.
To Rick, Maureen and Families,
My sincerest condolences to all in learning of your Moms passing.
She was one of my most favourite people ever and a real gem. I always had the utmost respect for her huge commitment to her community and we shared many a lunch downtown during her tenure at the YWCA.
And too she was such a great friend to my parents.
I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers in the coming days. Take care.
(appreciate a heads up as to her memorial when it’s able to be held)
Aunt Doreen was an amazing person. She lived a life full of concern and care for others. She shared her energy and love with all her family and friends. Her house was a gathering point for her extended family. She generously hosted our wedding reception in her beautifully cared for home. I have so many memories of our mother and daughter teas held when I came home from university. Doreen smiling and giving warm hugs and Jack ensconced in his TV room. These memories and many more live on in our hearts. We will miss you Aunt Doreen.
