It is with great sadness I received the email from Ashton sharing that Joan had passed away.
I have known Joan since 1985 when we had a year exchange program from Statoil, Norway to the Geological Survey of Calgary, studying the Jurassic rocks of Sverdrup Basin with Ashton as a mentor.
During that year we were invited to several celebrations to the Embry’s. During the following years I had many business trips and one holiday trip to Calgary, always with invitation to great evenings and dinners organized by Joan with help from Ashton. Joan was always so thoughtful and as a friend with nursing experience she also gave me useful advises when I had a difficult time in life. She will always be in my memory
