Clem’s 67th birthday, March 14, 1987 with my son David at their home in Saskatoon

I first met Clem when he interviewed me in May 1975 for the position of Electrical/Electronics Engineer at Smith-Roles. I started work the next week and my desk was next to Allan Roles who by coincidence was by partner in our engineering surveying class 3 years earlier, but I only knew him as a fellow student. We have since become lifelong friends and visit often. I worked for Clem for 10 years, before he became my Landlord when I rented commercial space from him to start my own retail business.

My last visit with Clem was at his 90th birthday at Allan and Brenda’s home in Calgary in March 2011. On March 14 this year we happened to be in Calgary at Allan’s when Clem’s 99th birthday party had been planned but, due to the Covid-19 situation, was not held.
