Condolences
We met in Gaspe when Grant came East to supervise a Gulf project. I was a summer student from Montreal. Grant loved word plays and so 'frenchifying' names became his game. (eg) Watson became 'Quel fils'. However, he just called me "Maudit".
We became friends after we moved back to Calgary in the '80's, sharing concert & play tickets, dinners at the Glencoe and Trawlers. Grant always took Centre Stage at our Glendale house parties, regaling all with his stories, limitless knowledge tid bits & jokes. His dogs got their share of attention on the driveway.
Finally, with a move closer to us, we exchanged "a little help from us friends" for yummy Chinese & Polish takeouts. He enjoyed the break and we never tired of his company.
We will always remember Grant and his canine friends with great fondness.
Rest in Peace, Grant.
From Leon & Statia Demers
When I started work at Gulf in 1975, one of the first people to whom I was introduced was Grant. He struck me at the time as being quite a character and my further experiences with him confirmed that analysis. On the other hand, he was always willing to spend time to help me understand the processes for getting approvals within the company and with government bodies which were invaluable in helping me get a grounding in the oil industry. He also was so good to introduce me to some of his amazing number of contacts within Calgary. Of course he also loved to tell me stories, especially of the old days - which I thoroughly enjoyed as well. And, interspersed with the true stories may have been a few tall tales which I was gullible enough to fall for. I particularly remember Grant for his dry sense of humour which would help lighten a tense moment. He was always saying, "Sandy, did I ever tell you the one about....?"
These are all small things but they add up to describe a man who was always kind and thoughtful, always willing to spend time with a rookie, always genuine. It is so good to see from this beautiful obituary that he continued to be a special person to many people, including his extended family. I am so sorry to hear of his passing and send all of you my heartfelt condolences. You are the best part of his legacy and I know he would be proud of you. I hope you can have a chance, even in this strange time, to celebrate his life! All the best, Sandy Crawford
