Condolences
Maurice was as fine a man as I’ve ever met. I will miss him, he was such a good friend.
When we moved next door to Maurice and Bernice in 1998 the family we bought our house from told us that we were getting the BEST neighbours in the world. And we quickly discovered that was true. They were friendly, supportive and so kind. We enjoyed our many driveway and garden conversations and grew to expect seeing them and their dogs out for their multiple daily walks. They were so gracious as our "house construction from hell" dragged on for many more months than we had all hoped. In typical fashion Maurice became a favourite with the entire construction crew and I think that he eventually knew more about what was happening to the project than we did. In the last few years Maurice continued being an icon in the community. Everyone knew who he was and appreciated seeing he and Geo on their walks. It was a familiar sight to see a car stopped beside the two of them and a conversation talking place. We will miss Maurice and we will never forget him. David, Stuart and family, we are sorry for your loss. With sympathy, Bob and Kathryn Stan (#12)
My in-laws met Bernice in the early 1950s in Ioco where Bernice was the company nurse. They met Maurice in the early 1960s when Maurice and Bernice, already married, had relocated to Calgary. In 1985 our family moved back to Calgary and we were delighted to find that our next door neighbours were Maurice and Bernice! Talk of going full circle! Our son Jake's first word was 'Kiff' (their dog's name was Keith), and they were the very best neighbours anyone could wish for. Maurice was a true gentleman and dear friend to all, including our children and their friends. We recently had a very good conversation with Maurice during which he remembered and asked by name of all 18 members of our family. He was such a warm-hearted man and will be sorely missed. Our deepest sympathy to David, Stewart and their families. Sincerely, Randy and Cecilia Gossen and family
Maurice was a true gentleman and friend to my father Iain Gibbons since the 1950s. They enjoyed talking about cars, particularly English ones, and the evolution of the automobile industry. Maurice was kind enough to provide his Rolls Royce for 2 family weddings, truly unique and memorable experiences! He had an inquisitive mind which was matched by his great energy and enthusiasm for life. He will be greatly missed.
