Obituary of Linda Rae Haines (nee Preston)

February 20, 1942 – Kitchener, Waterloo, Ontario  
May 30, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Linda Rae Haines (nee Preston) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2020 in Calgary, Alberta after a brief hospital stay.

Linda was born in Kitchener, ON, to Mr. and Mrs. Morley C. Preston on February 20, 1942. Linda and her family moved to Calgary in 1973 from Kitchener, ON. Linda was an active member of the community, volunteering at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, the Rotary Club of Calgary West and Calgary Heritage Housing, right up until her passing.  She was a volunteer for years with Scouts Canada. Linda developed her business, Haines Computer Services, teaching small business clients to manage their bookkeeping on-line as well as providing bookkeeping services over thirty years. Linda loved to travel and enjoyed camping trips with her husband and children. As the family grew older, she toured all over the US and Canada with Norm in their motorhome.  She loved the mountains and hosted her daughter & granddaughters every year for a week-long camping trip to Banff. She enjoyed her Shelties, and always had one for companionship over the years. She loved photography, sewing, rug-hooking and knitting, and was always working on a new project.

Linda is survived by her daughter Ruth Minions (David) and her granddaughters, Sarah, Tricia, and Christina Minions of Calgary, AB.   She is also survived by her extended family including, Charles (Andrea) Maier, Catherine (Mark) Hernandez, Julia (John) Maier, John (Rachel) Maier; and her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her husband Norman Harold Haines and her son, Norman Robert Haines.

Linda would have loved to have everyone get together and celebrate life, however due to COVID 19 restrictions a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Rockyview ICU, units 81 & 84, as well as the ER staff for the excellent care that Linda received.
