Condolences
Both my wife and I were saddened to hear of Jim’s passing and the struggle he had in his last few days. Our condolences to you Gary, your Mom, your Sister and your families – we think of you often.
We did not meet Jim until a couple of years ago. We always admired his determination and his zeal for his activities and family. He was a welcome guest and he always shared wonderful stories from his past – stories of the neighbourhood, his moving to his present home, industry stories and stories of the cabin. It was a pleasure to have known him. We will miss his smile, his laugh and his friendship.

Mary, Gary and Lynn and families -- this sad news has brought a lot of good memories for me.
Uncle Jim liked old things and doing certain things the old way and so do I.
On one visit, I spent a day helping Jim peel and set logs on the log house he was building. The first two runs of logs were already done as were the many vertical support posts. I asked who he hired to auger the post-holes and he said, "Oh I just did it by hand, with a bar and spoon". I was amazed! Jim saw no reason to hire something done if you could do it yourself.
Once, my daughter, my wife and I spent a night with Jim in his old, original cabin. Our daughter (about four at the time) was excited to have her own top bunk. She crawled in as we visited by lamplite. Jim told us about a time he had to sit up with his rifle because a bear was scratching at the door and looking in the window. Since he couldn't go to bed he decided to turn on his 12-volt television. The bear left; Jim said he must not have liked television. With the story finished, Jim blew out the lamp and our daughter was in our bunk in less than one minute. A great memory!
Please accept our deepest sympathy. The Covid restrictions must have made this a terrible time for all of you.

I have great memories of Jim as a contact lens patient. I also have memories of following him and his family to Carsland in the 60s with his car in the throes of restoration, and all over the Pacific North West following his 29 Model A two-door. He also put in a Mitchel Overdrive in my matching A Two Door.
His visit with his family to our Kootenay Cottage on our way to a Regional Model A meet in the USA is a fond memory.
Jim was a super gentleman. He was an avid Model A lover who passed it on to his son and grandson, who will keep his memory strong.
We all are better people from knowing Jim and his family.
What a time we have had at their log cabin by Cremona, and at the old log one that they used to stay in which was a special cabin!
Jim, we will always remember you!!
I am very sorry to learn of Jim's passing. Jim was always encouraging my activities on the Model A and other endeavours.
Please accept our condolence with the lose of a great guy. Having met Jim as part of the CGY Model A club we were always met with a smile and the no problem approach to taking the old car any where in a matter of fact manner. We will miss him.
To Mary, Gary, and all - -
Please accept our sincere condolences with respect to Jim's passing. Whether within our own Club or at events such as MAFCA's NW Regional Meets it was always a pleasure to spend time with Jim. One of our favourite Club members and we shall miss him.
Best wishes to you all! Ron & Irene Rigby.
It is with great sadness to hear that my uncle Jim has passed away. I remember many enjoyable times growing up visiting with the
Callander family. He had a lively sense of humor and energetic personality. I remember his being very patient and putting up with all the mischief we got into as young children. I enjoyed when he showed family his restored Ford and the pride he took in the work that he did with Gary. With adulthood I ended up moving to Toronto for about 10 years so contact was not as common as in earlier years. But I looked forward to "catching up" with events with him during visits after I moved back to AB. With the current
"COV-19" situation is a very difficult and painful thing for the family (and families around the world) to not be with loved ones at a time like this.
I will remember Jim with fond memories.
Best wishes and condolences to all of the Family.
