I met Bill in 1990 when I was doing utility regulatory work for City of Calgary Electric System. Bill was a wonderful person to work with. He was smart, knowledgeable, willing to share knowledge, and always a gentleman. In later years I looked forward to seeing him every year at the Calgary Burns Dinner.
I will always remember Mr. Stephen from our multi-family Banff ski trips in the early '70s. It was a tradition for all the children to follow Bill down the hill for the first run of the day in a snaking conga line, matching his precision stem christie's turn for turn, before roaming the slopes on our own. They are wonderful memories and I send condolences to the Stephen family for their loss.
Bill's service to the profession was inspiring. He was a kind and gentlemanly man, and our conversations over the years at Institute events were a pleasure. A sad loss to us all.
Our deepest sympathies to June and the Stephen family. Bill was the ultimate professional and we were privileged to have interacted with him over the last 40+ years in various roles within the CA profession. He made a great contribution in so many ways and it was always so interesting to talk to him on a wide range of issues. He will be truly missed.
I met Bill while still at the U of C. I was kind of a late starter in entering the profession and maybe that made a connection with Bill. If I remember correctly he interviewed me for a position with his firm and offered me a position, but as I had already accepted another offer I had to decline. As time went by we kept running into each other and every time we met he remembered me. The last time we met was a few years ago as we were both members of a disciplinary tribunal. His input and understanding of the issues involved seemed to come so naturally. It made the completion of our report easy. Bill was one of the stars of our profession. He was truly a remarkable man and he will be missed by all that knew him.
