Condolences
My sincere condolences to Bunny and family.
My grandpa Smith was Ralph’s brother.
My mother; Benita spoke fondly of her cousin Carl.
They were born a day apart. She was born Feb. 7, 1933. They played together at the Smiths farm.
I hope your fond memories of Carl will be of comfort during this difficult time.
In sympathy,
Lisa Coulouris.
To Bunny and the Smith family, on behalf of the Chan family we extend our deepest condolences to you for the loss of Mr. Smith (Carl). We considered him a family friend and have many fond memories of spending time with him. He was instrumental to our family business success as he made a key introduction to our patriarch in the late 1950’s. He was generous with his time and even helped me out with a college project in 1987. We will always remember his good nature, kind words, intelligence and sage advice. The world has lost a true Gentleman. We send to you all of our best. Chris Chan and family
I came to know Carl through his wife, Bunny, and their family. Rarely in my life have I met someone so kind, vibrant, and loving as he was. He knew how to make you feel like a million dollars for even the tiniest thing. It was incredible to witness the love he shared with his wife Bunny, and to watch him interact with his little grandson, Macklin ("I brought the boss with me today!"). He just radiated kindness... I don't think I have ever met such a generous person. He embodied that Christian ideal of giving of oneself to others without ever counting the cost. His dedication to his family was obvious, and it was so clear that you were all the light of his life, his pride and his joy. To all of Carl's family: I cannot express to you how sorry I am for your loss. On a personal note, I was broken hearted to hear of his passing. I always thought I would see him again...maybe one day I will! If I can be half the person he was, then I will consider my life well-lived. This world is a better place because he was here, and I know that all of his family will carry on his legacy of loving and living life to the full. Goodbye, my friend - rest in peace...
Dear Bunny and Family
Please accept my sincere condolences on Carl's passing.
I met him 40 years ago through the Toronto Dominion Bank and had the pleasure of reconnecting from
time to time at Rotary and other business events. And, of course, at the Calgary Stampede during the Grandstand
Show when he came to show his support for the Young Canadians and the committee you
volunteered on, Bunny.
Carl was a respected businessman who 'walked the talk' on contributing to community.
He had a gift for remembering everyone's names and could even recall where he met them.
I enjoyed hearing the stories he shared on your travel adventures, Bunny. The two of
you were wonderful hosts and family and friends who gathered with you always enjoyed
your 'western' hospitality.
My thoughts and prayers and with you all as you celebrate Carl and a life well lived.

Our condolence to the Carl's family. We came to know Carl through our membership in the Rotary Club of Calgary (downtown). He always demonstrated and lived the motto of Rotary "Service Above Self". He was instrumental in establishing and nourishing the "Rotary Stay in School" program which has financed scholarships for many underprivileged students in Calgary. In addition, over many years he collected and redistributed older and surplus computers to the less well equipped students and schools in . Carl was invited to be the President of the Rotary Club on several occasions, but turned it down because he wished to work in the trenches. Carl was a true gentleman and a fun guy to be around.... especially on the ski hill ! Rest in peace our good friend.

It is remarkable how similar our careers were except that Carl made it a way higher on the salary scale/position, Starting with the farm, joining the Dominion Bank at 16 and same salary and education. I first met Carl at the Valhalla Inn conference in 1968 and it was apparent even then that he was destined for greatness. Then, we both wound up in Calgary with Carl being our Sr. VP.
He was a wonderful gentleman, down to earth with great common sense. I never heard anyone express a negative word about him!
Please accept my heartfelt condolences to Bunny and all the family
With much love, Dave Meriam. (retired TD Bank Branch Manager)
Carl gave me my first management position with the bank in 1975 - we have been good pals for 44 years.
He became one of the "three amigos" whereby we hunted pheasants for years. I often think of those trips, driving through fields in his top of the line SUV; he drove it like a Sherman tank! What fun! I am really going to miss our visits when I came to Calgary.
I hunted with my Labradors and I can tell everyone that my dogs loved him and they were all his friends. What great memories and I will miss him terribly - if there is a future memorial service, I will be there. God bless you all.
Dear Bunny and Family
My deepest condolences on there loss of your beloved husband, father and grandfather, Carl. A life well-lived, but it is always too soon to experience such a loss. May your memories sustain you in the days and weeks ahead. Carl was a true gentleman and friend to many.
I had the pleasure of serving on a corporate board with Carl for a few years. He was a man of integrity and of getting things done. He made our world a better place.

So terribly sorry for your loss. Carl was one my favourite members of the Calgary Woodturning Guild. It always brightened my day to see him and his warm and friendly smile. I will miss sharing a couple cookies and visiting with him at the monthly meetings. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
