Obituary of Brent David MCCOWAN

March 31, 1959 - Red Deer, Alberta
July 17, 2020 - Golden British, Columbia

Brent “Bubba” McCowan beloved husband of, Wanda of Calgary, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2020 at the age of 61 years.

Dad, Buddy, Bubba, Bucky, Howdy, Uncle Buck, B-dawg, The Big Kahuna, Mr. Wong, Work Dad, Faja...

All these names encompassed Brent David McCowan. He was many things to many people. He was firstly son to Ina Marie and Gary Bareham McCowan, and brother to Gary Allen McCowan. The silly and goofy one, he brought a lot of joy and spontaneity to their wonderful family. They moved often being in a military family, where Brent always made friends and embraced a new lifestyle wherever they were.  He started his family with Jamie where they had their daughters, Carley and Kendall who are sources of joy and pride for them both.  He was Bubba to Finnley and Hurshel, and he was an extremely fun and loving Grandpa. He loved wrestling and was always ready for any playtime. He was a highly valued Nexen employee where he was a good friend and work Dad. He had a long and fruitful career, where he met his beautiful wife Wanda.

Honesty and integrity were highly valued by Brent. He was extremely soft hearted. Often so much so, that he didn't have the words to say but he made up for it with actions, emotions, and affection. He was always the happiest for others good news and could celebrate with anyone... affectionate and silly, he valued quality time and making memories. He loved music and would sing and dance through any situation. He had a voice for almost everything and would leave his daughter Carley silly voicemails to record his entertaining and ridiculous characters. Brent had a peaceful and joyful demeanor and had a way of listening and not correcting even though he was wise enough to give the best advice.  He had a way to smile with his whole face as if to say" I am listening and understand “without speaking through words.

Brent lived for his passions with a love of aviation, kayaking, skiing, quading, lawn games, nature, and travel.  The "combining clans" Scotland trip where Wanda and Brent took their daughters and Kendall’s husband Jake, was where they shared some of their fondest memories together. He loved being with his dog Fletcher in nature out at the McDonovan dude ranch where he would split wood, " go for rips" on his quad, and walks in the trees with Fletch. Brent and Wanda had many plans of creating a fun family centered space at their new property the McCowan Camphill. Bubba had many outdoor passions he was going to share with the grandkids, family, and friends there.

Brent will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of his time, and in this life, we can find comfort in the signs of him in nature, and all of the great memories he imprinted on our hearts.

In lieu of not being able to hold a formal service, we will be hosting a celebration of life that we will enjoy sometime in the upcoming months. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Brent’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
